Rumours surrounding this match ......... why isn't Paul Cook playing ......... has he been sacked ......... turning up drunk for training maybe ......... caught drunk driving having already been banned maybe ...... attempting to blackmail the manager about his personal habits maybe ........ can't wait for the truth to come out. By the way Hull are winning 28-18 with 20 minutes left. Happy little Tiger

Cooke isnt sacked saw him in the tunnel before the game with Jake Webster and Shaun Briscoe
Anyway SL lisences given out tomorrow, as far as i've heard its gonna be the current 12, Celtic Crusaders and either Widnes or Salford
Personally i'd go with:
Saints, Leeds, Wigan, Bradford, Hull, Warrington, Rovers, Leigh, Widnes, Wakey, Celtic, Catalans, Castleford, Salford or Whitehaven

As well as Harlequins he also forgot Huddersfield ......... looks like a case of dropping the "H's" as we do in 'ull. Another rumour in the Paul Cook saga ........ has he been seeing the managers piece of skirt ......... will these rumours never end ........ I hope not

Harlequins are not good for rugby league imo, last week they attracted about 2,800 fans and 500 of those were from Cas, they're a club feeding off a well established rugby union team in a middle class area of a union obsessed city, if a club in the south is going to do well they need to be moved to a poorer area of the city or moved out of London all together
As for Huddersfield, they have to be the most boring rugby team on the planet and they only get decent crowds when they play a team with a good away following ie the 2 Hull clubs, Leeds and Bradford otherwise they fail to get over 6,000 in the heartland of rugby, and considering they have a stadium with a capacity of 24,500 its not good enough
IMO Widnes, Leigh, Halifax and Featherstone would be able to get more supporters through the turnstiles and play more attractive rugby than both of these teams

The mark of the beast was on Hull FC on friday night as they were well and truly beaten 66-6 by Wigan at the JJB stadium.
Possibley the worst ever performance, nay effort, in the Super League.

Right need to update this thread So the season is 5 games old now, current table is: p W D L F A Pts 1 Leeds 5 5 0 0 119 44 10 2 Hull 5 5 0 0 134 86 10 3 St Helens 5 4 0 1 110 52 8 4 Wakefield 6 4 0 2 141 97 8 5 Hull KR 5 3 1 1 122 87 7 6 Harlequins 4 3 0 1 138 58 6 7 Castleford 5 3 0 2 136 98 6 8 Huddersfield 5 3 0 2 98 91 6 9 Wigan 6 2 0 4 116 120 4 10 Catalans 5 1 0 4 92 132 2 11 Salford 5 1 0 4 84 183 2 12 Bradford 4 0 1 3 59 109 1 13 Celtic 5 0 0 5 60 136 0 14 Warrington 5 0 0 5 78 194 0 Great starts from Hull and Leeds despite both teams not particularly playing that well definately pleased with the way we've started though and long may it continue. This could be our year Saints loss came against Hull KR and haven't particularly been very good, only managed to get a 4-0 win vs Celtic. But looks like average saints will do well and probably win it Wakefield...absolutely delighted for them and their start, losing Adam Watene in the winter was a huge blow for them and shook the rugby world, that coupled with injuries and they should be so much lower down in the league but they have fantastic team spirit and Brad Drew Hull KR have made a good start including a win against Saints, look likely to be there or there abouts by the end of the season, best chance surely has to be the Challenge cup though. Squad looks like their strongest since promotion Have to take back what i said about Harlequins, they have played brilliant rugby so far including a 60-8 destruction of a struggling wire team, top 8 should be no sweat for them. Still have poo crowds though Castleford have been a revelation this year, after their disaster in 2008 they have found a bit of class through thelikes of Shenton, Westerman and Sherwin, my tip for the challenge cup this year. Huddersfield have played attractive rugby so far and have got some good results away from the Galpharm stadium, but can't find a way to win at home...sounds like a certain premiership football team Poor start to the season from Wigan but have picked themselves up recently and could easily be in the top 4 by the end of the year Catalans have been terrible compared to last year, maybe losing inspirational coach Mick Potter has hit them harder than expected or they played over their ability last year? Salford are rubbish and their only win was against Celtic Crusaders, need a few seasons in the super league to be able to compete with the top 8 Bradfords only point came at home to Hull KR in the first game of the season. In many peoples opinion they are the worst Bradford side in history.. It's sad to see such a great club doing so badly, ah well thanks for the 2 points last week Dull's Celtic Crusaders have really impressed since the start of the season, I know they haven't won but have improved every single time they play and i think its fantastic we have Super League team in Wales Warrington...what can you say? they have been awful they have a lot of star players Matt King, Adrian Morley, Lee Briers etc. should be competing for the top spot but the perenial under achievers are really really really under-achieving My predictions: Top 8: 1.Leeds 2.Hull FC 3.Saints 4.Wigan 5.Hull KR 6.Harlequins 7.Castleford 8.Wakefield Grand Final: Hull FC vs Leeds (Hull Win) Challenge Cup Final: Hull KR vs Castleford (Cas win)

Tonights scores: Hull FC 18-19 Castleford Tigers (err there goes our 100% record) Saints 26-12 Leeds (Latest Score) Looks like Leeds 100% record has gone aswell Salford 12-38 Wigan

I'm glad you've changed your mind about the Quins - doing pretty well although fair point about the crowds. To be expected with Union so popular down ere though.

|
Post by tigertiger on Mar 20, 2009 22:15:34 GMT
I suppose it is expected, but they're a really strong side who should be able to draw in much bigger crowds, it's dissapointing so many southerners are missing out on one of the best sports in the world when they have a really good side down their

Very good point and it is a shame. Personally i would go to Charlton, London Irish and Kent all before the Quins, and i imagine many people are in a similar boat. I really enjoyed it when i went to see the Broncos play at the Valley a couple of times but i will always prefer Union.

Post by tigertiger on Mar 20, 2009 22:27:48 GMT
Well then they should put the franchise in another city, if London doesn't care about Quins then there should be an oppertunity for some other fans that will go

Maybe but i still think the South needs representation - it's a massive part of the country to just ignore. You pretty much eliminate the possibility of the Southern market, of getting the South into League if you remove the Quins. There's already an overload of franchises in the North i'm not usre you need another...

|
Post by hallmackem on Mar 20, 2009 22:51:48 GMT
Perhaps a part of the South without a major Union side? If there is one that is...

|
Post by tigertiger on Mar 20, 2009 22:56:57 GMT
I think moving it to an area with a lower league football team and no big name union side would be the best option as it will be able gain a foothold as long as it was marketed properly. And seeing as Ben is on here, hows about a future franchise in the north-east? Gateshead have an established team albeit Hull FC kinda did nick their Super League status

Doubt it would work, the Falcons can barely fill their stadium and Union is more popular up here.
Its just the Association Football dominates too much.

What about something around Brighton, Southampton sort of area. No Union teams i don't think and definitely South...

Post by tigertiger on Mar 20, 2009 23:40:39 GMT
I was thinking north of london, i don't think too many people from Leeds, Wigan, Hull etc would appreciate Brighton or Southampton on a friday night...Luton, Wycombe or Milton Keynes would all be decent areas i reckon
|
|
|
Post by Lukiebakercafc on Mar 20, 2009 23:43:37 GMT
But Wycombe already share a ground with Wasps who are massive and Saacens play around that area as well - not to mention the three Football League teams that you mentioned. Maybe Milton Keynes though...
What about Kent? Only really Gillingham and the Cricket county there...
|
|
|
Post by tigertiger on Mar 20, 2009 23:54:22 GMT
Kent would be a decent are and forgot about Wasps playing at Adams Park lol, by the looks of things a super league franchise anywhere down south seems unlikely to draw serious support, shame TBH as league is a far superior code of rugby than union
|
|
|
Post by Lukiebakercafc on Mar 20, 2009 23:56:37 GMT
Haha - i'm not going there...
I'll agree that it does look as if League can never succeed down south which is a shame. Maybe it's best that the game is 'limited' to the North.

Sad day for rugby league today as 21 year old Wakefield Wildcats rising star Leon Walker collapsed in the 63rd minute of a reserve game aginst Celtic Crusaders before being airlifted to hospital were he pronounce dead on arrival. Awful news for Wakefield following the death of one of their star players Adam Watene during pre season training and Jamie Rooney "dying" for 30 seconds on the operating table due to anasthetic and was only saved thanks to quick thinking from doctors. No club deserves to be ripped apart like this. I really hope the wildcats go on to win the challenge cup this year now, never has a team been more deserving of a piece of silverware than this one. R.I.P Leon you died playing the game you loved but 21 is far too you, my thoughts are with your family and friends aswell as John Kear and his Wakefield squad.

A team mate of my coach died a while back, not during a game but as a direct result of a scrum collapsing and breaking his neck. He was in his early twenties as well. I'd not actually heard of Leon Walker but still, my thoughts are with his family and his team mates.
