Warrington 32-20 Hull FC King's try was the most impressive of the night Warrington: (20) 32 Tries: Bridge (2), Hicks, V Anderson, King, Westwood Goals: Briers (4)
Hull: (14) 20 Tries: Hall (2), Horne Goals: Tickle (4)
Matt King and Michael Monaghan made impressive debuts as Warrington survived a brave Hull fightback to win.
Early scores by Chris Bridge and Chris Hicks put Warrington ahead before Craig Hall bagged the visitors' first try.
Vinnie Anderson restored the Wolves' lead before King's superb debut try, but poor marking by Kevin Penny let in Hall to score his second try.
Ben Westwood scored Wolves' fifth try, with Bridge claiming his second, before Hull's Graeme Horne touched down.
Hull started the quicker but once their early nerves settled Warrington went on the attack.
Bridge nipped over in the right-hand corner for Warrington's first try after Martin Gleeson's dummy run carved open the Hull defence.
Adrian Morley was denied a second try as Motu Tony stripped the ball from his grasp as he went over the line, but Hall's knock-on as Hull tried to clear the danger handed possession back to Warrington.
And they took advantage as a slick handling move put Hicks over again in the corner.
Hull put themselves back in the game when Hall jogged in unchallenged to score after Bridge lost his footing as he went to gather Danny Washbrook's long kick.
Anderson's nimble footwork put him on the scoresheet before King opened his Warrington account, running half the pitch to score after Penny's burst of electrifying pace.
Just after half-time Westwood stretched the Wolves' following some fine work by the impressive Monaghan, but the game struggled to regain its first-half momentum in the second period.
And the longer the game continued without Warrington scoring again, the more Hull seemed to take heart.
But with just five minutes left, Paul Rauhihi bulldozed through the defence to put Bridge in for his second try to seal the win.
Horne's try ensured Hull finished the match on a positive note but by then the game was beyond them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warrington coach Paul Cullen: "A win's a win but I'm a bit disappointed that the opening game was littered with so many penalties.
"When we injected some speed and some fluency in our game, we looked dangerous and the guys are reasonably pleased with what they have delivered.
"But we certainly won't be getting carried away."
Hull coach Peter Sharp: "There was some very courageous play but also some very dumb play.
"There were some alright performances.
"You can't invite them into your backyard or they will pinch your toys. They're a very good attacking side."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warrington: Bridge, Hicks, M. Gleeson, King, Penny, Briers, Monaghan, Morley, Clarke, Rauhihi, L. Anderson, Westwood, V. Anderson. Replacements: M. Gleeson, Parker, Johnson, Pickersgill.
Hull: Tony, Byrne, Hall, Berrigan, Williams, Washbrook, Lee, Cusack, Houghton, Carvell, Dowes, Manu, Tickle. Replacements: King, G. Horne, Dale, Briscoe.
Referee: A Klein (London) Well Hull did well considering we had 7 first team players out, one of the best hookers in the world having to play centre and a very inexperienced half-back pairing also 19 year old Craig Hall played Matt King off the park, after everyone said he would not handle one of the best centres in world rugby
Also well done Tom Briscoe, didn't look over awed on his superleague debut, ok he only played 10 minutes but did really well and put in some good runs and tackled well, and at 17 has a hell of a long time to improve
Final point...Kevin Penny is poo, can't tackle and isn't strong enough if anyone ever says he's the next Martin Offiah again needs shooting, over hyped by far too many people

GARRETH Carvell will miss the first 15 rounds of Super League after a scan today showed he has ruptured knee ligaments. Hull FC's worst fears were confirmed with the Great Britain international set for three and a half months on the sidelines following his injury in Hull's defeat at Warrington last week. The 27-year-old prop will not return for the black and whites before the end of May, opening the door for a return in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals if Hull are still involved. Carvell has revealed his disappointment at the news after setting his sights on making a massive impact in World Cup year. "To say I am gutted is an understatement. I just can't believe what has happened, especially as I was feeling great and really looking to make a big impact at the start of the season" said Carvell. "But it's just bad luck and I can't do anything about it. I have just got to get on with things and put 100 percent into my rehab." "One thing is certain; I'll be hungry and itching to play when I finally get the all clear." Best front row forward in superleague out for 15 games so thats Raynor, Yeaman, Horne, Dykes, Radford, Carvell, Sing, Whiting, all out 4 GB internationals!!!!! 8 of a 25 man squad out!!! and 7 of them are in our strongest 13 !!!! Well were gonna have a fun season

They did do very very well..but were having to play the best hooker in SL at centre, and a very inexperienced half-back partnership although Washy did fantastic against Wire, as did Danny Houghton at hooker, Berro will find it hard to take it back if his performances are the same for the next few weeks. Craig Hall just keeps getting better, my tip for top try scorer getting off to a flier with two against Wire...would play against quins:
FB:Motu Tony RW:Todd Byrne RC:Craig Hall LC:Shaun Berrigan LW:Gaz Raynor SO:Danny Washbrook SH:Tommy Lee PR:Peter Cusack HK:Danny Houghton PR:Paul King SR:Graham Horne SR:Willie Manu LF:Danny Tickle
Bench: Scott Wheeldon Ewan Dowes Tom Briscoe Ashley Thackeray

Engage Super League
Hull 6-24 Harlequins RL ... oh dear .. played 2 lost 2
Hull 6-24 Harlequins Hull: (0) 6 Tries: Berrigan Goals: Tickle
Warrington: (14) 24 Tries: Purdham, Howell, Gafa 2, Randall Goals: Purdham 2
Rob Purdham, David Howell and Matt Gafa all scored in an eight-minute burst as Harlequins beat Hull to secure their first win of the Super League season.
Harlequins defended superbly to keep Hull at bay throughout the first half.
Chad Randall plundered from close-range for the Londoners' fourth try and Gafa crossed again before Shaun Berrigan grabbed a late consolation for Hull.
Harlequins' Scott Hill was stretchered off with what was later reported to be whiplash and could be out for a month.
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott: "We were quite prepared to come off second best if it meant we put in a good performance. "Our defence kept them out when I didn't think we had the right to. It was heart-in-your-mouth stuff but it was also lump-in-your-throat stuff.
"I wasn't disappointed to let them in late and not keep a clean sheet. The main thing was the performance."
On Scott Hill's injury: "It's not a permanent injury, as was my fear. He'll be a few weeks. A bad case of whiplash is the first assessment, we'll see over the next couple of weeks."
Hull coach Peter Sharp: "We started poorly and made a series of unforced errors. It's hard coming back from 14-0 at the break but I thought we could if we did a lot of things right but we didn't do enough right. "They (the fans) are entitled to their opinions and we certainly played poorly. They spend their hard-earned money to watch us in what is a working-class town.
"They're terribly supportive of us, so I won't say anything bad about them. But we are going through a tough patch and they need to be patient and their patience will be repaid I'm sure."
Hull: Berrigan, Byrne, Briscoe, Cusack, Dale, Dowes, Hall, G. Horne, Houghton, King, Lee, Manu, Raynor, Tickle, Tony, Washbrook, Wheeldon, Williams.
Harlequins: Gafa, Grayshon, Haggerty, Hill, Howell, Mbu, McCarthy-Scarsbrook, McLinden, Orr, Paul, Purdham, Randall, Rinaldi, Sheriffe, Temata, Walsh, Ward, Wells.

Wigan: 22 (16) Tries: Hock, Carmont, Richards, Bailey Goals: Richards 3
A late Danny Tickle goal helped Hull secure their first victory of the season in a pulsating encounter against Wigan at the KC Stadium.
Shaun Berrigan gave the home side an early lead before Gareth Hock, George Carmont and Pat Richards all scored for the visitors in the first half.
Danny Houghton hit back for Hull, but Phil Bailey extended Wigan's lead.
But tries from Lee Radford and Tickle levelled the scores, before the latter kicked the winning two points.

Bad News:
HULL FC have been dealt a bitter blow after learning Shaun Berrigan could be out for up to a month with a bicep injury.
The 29-year-old former Australian Test player damaged his arm while training for Hull alongside Melbourne Storm in Featherstone on Tuesday.
Berrigan sustained the injury in an innocuous-looking incident, complaining of pain after passing the ball rather than as the result of a tackle.
Because of the nature of the injury, which can take up to six months to heal and require surgery, there were initial fears the star hooker could be sidelined long term.
After seeing a specialist yesterday those fears have now been allayed.
FC are reluctant to put a time frame on Berrigan's return, but the Mail understands he could be back in action for the derby match on Good Friday, March 21.
With fears arising that the injury could have been connected to previous shoulder damage, a lengthy absence was a distinct possibility.
While clearly upset to be without his star player for the next three games at least, coach Peter Sharp has admitted he is breathing a small sigh of relief after fearing the worst.
"With our run of bad luck with injuries it could easily have been six, seven, eight weeks, who knows how long" Sharp told the Mail.
"I'm obviously not very happy but I'm relieved it's not 12 weeks or something like that.
"There is a light at the end of the tunnel, but just when you think our luck is turning things like this happen."

Leeds: 11 (8) Tries: Donald Goals: Sinfield 3 Drops: Sinfield
Melbourne: 4 (4) Tries: Hoffman
Leeds Rhinos ensured the World Club Challenge trophy stayed in England for a fifth successive year with a tense victory over Melbourne Storm.
The Super League champions overcame wild and windy conditions, with Kevin Sinfield's kicking proving vital.
A Ryan Hoffman try put the Storm ahead before Scott Donald crossed to restore Leeds' advantage just before half-time
And as conditions deteriorated, Sinfield's second penalty and drop goal were the only scores after the break.
The Rhinos' victory - their second in the fixture after beating Canterbury in 2005 - was marred by injuries to Danny McGuire, Clinton Toopi and Keith Senior.
But for the moment they will celebrate a monumental triumph, albeit over a Storm side which has been largely inactive since winning their Grand Final against Manly in September.
606: DEBATE As hard and as tough a game I have seen in years
Southsydneynrl
The visitors looked the more composed early on, however, and after a Sinfield penalty put Leeds ahead, Cooper Cronk played in Hoffman to jink over after a flowing move.
In appalling conditions, the game developed into an attritional battle in which Leeds were struggling to break down the formidable Melbourne defence.
However, Webb was 20 metres out when he skipped across to the left before slipping the ball through to Donald, who motored over for a crucial score.
In the second half, the Australian outfit tried desperately to find a chink in the Leeds rearguard, notably through Cronk, Billy Slater and Will Chambers.
But they could find no way through and their frustration resulted in lapses in discipline, which Sinfield punished despite complaining about a laser beam being shone into his eyes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leeds: Webb, Smith, Toopi, Senior, Donald, McGuire, Burrow, Leuluai, Diskin, Peacock, Jones-Buchanan, Ellis, Sinfield. Substitutes: Lauitiiti, Ablett, Scruton, Bailey.
Melbourne: Slater, S. Turner, Chambers, Folau, Quinn, Geyer, Cronk, Lima, J. Smith, White, Kaufusi, Hoffman, Johnson. Substitutes: Aitken, Blair, Manu, Tagataese.

At least Salford got a comfortable win last Friday (70-6 against Swinton).
I just hope we can bounce back from playing like a bunch of tossers last season. Unfortunately, with no automatic promotion to Super League, it could be a case of big fish / small pond syndrome.
