The Ballad Of Jack & Rose - Daniel Day Lewis stars in this low key film about a father daughter relationship developing within the commune style life. Intriguing stuff about relationships and the flowering of womanhood.
Most definitely worth a look.

Envy - Jack Black & Ben Stiller vehicle about a guy who invents a spray that makes dog poo disappear and the antics which follow from that. I was searching for a spray that would make one of the worst films I have ever seen go away after 10 minutes or so.

Finally got round to watching The Shawshank Redemption. Prison cliche' aside it was a brilliant, brilliant film. Bets prison film ever IMO. Followed by The Green Mile & Brubaker. It was immense but they used too many of the prison conventions eg' a 'man who can get things,' people turned gay, violent guard, murder being made to look like an accident, escaping through the poopipe, everyone in here is innocent etc' etc'

Quite true Ben but I guess it would be hard to write a gripping story about somewhere as boring as prison without using a few devices.

The Way Of The Gun - Two low ones kidnap a pregnant girl and head to Mexico with her. All is not as it seems from any perspective and intrigue follows.
Respectable enough film with Benicio Del Torro & James Caan.
Worth a look.

Hanks at his best was Forrest Gump.
Despite the fact that some of the best moments of that film were when Forrest was a child.

Hanks is always at his best - The Terminal , The Green Mile, Castaway, Sleepless in Seattle, Forrest Gump. No other modern actor comes near the range of parts he has played. However, for me personally one of the finest pieces of acting I have ever seen was the prison guard who screwed up the execution in Green Mile. Can't remember his name now but, at the time, I absolutely hated him - which shows how effective his acting was.

Johnny Depp surely would Stealth? Can't believe Hanks was going to be Capt Jack Sparrow before Depp agreed to it! Hanks is very good but just has something very annoying about him!

You're right about Johhny Depp's range Gerry (how did I forget him?) & he's actually my favourite modern actor but there's no doubt Hanks is brilliant as well.

Hanks wasn't at his best in the Da Vinci Code but that was the story rather than the acting. Don't get me wrong it was a decent film (poo book) but the line "quick, I need to get to a library." Just seems too out of place in a thriller.
The Terminal was a class film.

You could certainly think of a lot of good one liner replies to that question - but they'd be funny rather than thrilling!

Palindromes 2004 - Excellent piece of film making about a 13 year old girl who runs away from home after her family force her to have an abortion after her first sexual encounter. A kind of twisted fairytale which rewards the viewer.
Highly recommended.

Eichman.
Its about Adolf Eichman, the head of the Gestapos 'transport' division. The man responsible for sending six million "enemies of the Reich." to their death. Basically its the story of his capture whilst hiding in Argentina then his interrogation in an Israeli prison. The main character is Avner Less, a young Israeli police officer trained in interrogation. Given the task of forcing a confession he finds himself and his family targeted by the Jewish people who are furious that Eichman is being given a fair trial.
Quite a good film.

The Bone Collector. Stars Angelina Jolie as a rookie police detective and Denzel Washington as a disabled veteran police detective who can't leave his bed. Jolie's character goes in search of a serial killer who murders his victims in the same way as a serial killer from a book called "The Bone Collector". It's not bad.

Tell you what holocaust related performance I have seen that is brilliant. A play called 'Dr Korbchak's Example.' Go and see it if you can, I saw it in Manchester but I doubt it's still running there.

The Last Casino - A rather unconvincing Canadian film about a gambling addicted academic who is barred from all casinos for card counting and assembles a team of gifted students to his dirty work for him. Poor plot and not great acting far too cliched for my liking.
Give it a miss.
