Think i'll resurrect this thread.
Playing Rugby for college later on today so i'll let you know how I get on.
Got asked to play for the Sunderland RFC seniors on Saturday but can't go because of other commitments. Really annoying that is.

We might actually be good this year, we have real loose forwards! Not the props we had as flankers last year.

Mine are third.
I don't support Newcastle as they're Newcastle. So I support Sale because Jason Robinson played for them and Matthew Tait does now.

Well we won although I can't remember the exact score now.
They got 17 I know that much, ours was in the 30s.
It came as a surprise as we were poo. I literally got the ball twice because of our midfield being absolute dross today. The only work I saw was on defence and more rucks than I should be involved in.

No, as I explained, our midfield was poo.
Our outside centre had never played before. Even if he could have held the pass from the inside centre i'd have had to stand right next to him to take the pass from him then i'd have been in no space to do anything.
The only times I got the ball were when I scissored round for the pop back inside from the inside centre. But obviously then I had a load of forwards bearing down on me. I'm fast but I haven't got the agility to work space from absolutely nothing at all. And there's only so much tackle breaking one can do until two props latch onto you.
Our other winger barely got the ball either. The vast majority of our points came from our fullback taking their kicks and running straight back through.

We played better than I can remember in ages yesterday.
I was playing at Inside Centre and saw loads of work with ball in hand and at the breakdown (turning them over thrice). Set up two of our tries but didn't manage to score one myself. The first one I set up was quite enjoyable. Our left winger made the break after a miss move from me over to him. I was the first in support when he was tackled just outside their 22 and just did a pick and go, handed one man off then offloaded when I was actually tackled allowing our hooker to bash through under the posts.
Finest moment of the game though came when we were on defence. We were playing a drift defence when their fullback decided to join the line in the 12-13 channel, as we were drifting his obvious instinct was to cut back indside. Good idea really, except I saw it coming and lined him up. I knew it had hurt when I saw him limping gingerly behind their backline.
We won by six tries to three in the end. Don't even ask about the conversions though... they were pitiful.

Played a game of American Football in Rugby training today which was a laugh.
Its a dangerous game without padding.
One play, my team were on defence and I was playing cornerback, covering the reciever. The quarterback went for the hail mary and I had intercepted it, except whilst me and the wide reciever were still in the air our free safety ran in and took both of us out. We all landed in a large pile on the floor and it bloody hurt.

Played one of the most amazing games of Rugby I've ever been involved in today.
Tries galore as it finished 42-40 in favour of us.
Its made me realise that I'm not a winger, I've got the pace to play there, I can step well enough and I can break tackles. Unfortunately I've come to realise I couldn't finish a dinner. What I do well is draw defenders, break the line and put people in space. I'm a centre.
Anyway, back to the match. We scored that winning try in the last five minutes and what a try it was. It came from their kick off straight after we had scored another try. I was deep in our 22 waiting to support the forwards. However their fly half kicked deep, not straight at me but I was the first to it. I picked up, beat their entire pack for pace then looked up to see their inside centre bearing down on me. Didn't really have the time to step or pass so I dropped my shoulder and knocked him backwards. Their fullback half tackled me as in he stopped me moving but I just popped the ball to one of our locks who was supporting, try scored. Our fullback knocks the conversion over, 42-40. We gave away a sloppy penalty in the dying seconds, luckily they missed it and we won.

Our forwards need to sort themselves out. The amount of times I got pinged today for holding on in the ruck because those fat bastards couldn't get to the breakdown.
Defies belief really. They know how I play, its not like its a surprise to them when I break the line every time I get the ball. The only time a flanker or second row ever appears on my shoulder is when there's a massive gap for them.

Lazy bastards but do you know how annoying it is when us forwards have had to commit to a ruck and secured the ball on one side of the field - the backs ping it all the way across the line to the other side of the field where the winger runs straight into contact. The other backs seem to think it's above them to get dirty and ruck - simple turnover. And the forwards get the blame... IF YOU PLAYED WITH A BIT MORE monkey'sING NOUSE YOU PANSY BASTARDS AND KEPT THE BALL TIGHT FOR A FEW PHASES GIVING US THE CHANCE TO SPREAD...!!!!

I'm not a winger any more, I'm a centre. And the forwards should have been there. It wasn't a case of it being miles away from where they were either. Plus its their job to do it. As for backs rucking and mauling, I was involved in more than one of our second rows today. Mainly because I want to play as a flanker. Ended up being directly responsible for two turnovers, securing our ball on a few occasions and was involved in stopping a rolling maul from about three metres out.

Sorry Ben i wasn't suggesting that's what you'd done - just venting my frustration at some very annoying backs i've played with over the years. Forwards have to be stuck up for sometimes! From what you've said about your Rugby playing you have absolutely no problem getting stuck in.

The two groups just wee each other off in general though. Like when there's a massive overlap, but no, a prop picks and drives down the blindside and we end up getting nothing for our trouble.
Still, nothing compares to a scrum half who makes these ridiculous 'sniping runs'. They never amount to anything and they mainly end in a turnover.

I used to play with a fly-half who seemed to think he was Fred Astaire He'd just dance around pathetically in the middle of the field when he got the ball, running about 50m for a gain of 5m - idiot. Remember Ben - the forwards win the game but the backs decide by how many

This Wednesday its possibly our biggest fixture of the year. Sunderland College Vs. Newcastle College. Didn't play in it last year because I had damaged knee ligaments but I'm ready this year.
I'm not certain of this but I reckon I'm going to be starting at Fullback, our first choice Fullback is injured and I'm one of only a few others who has experience there. My talent for running through broken play will probably ensure that this is where I'll be. Plus, our first choice Fly Half is back (After taking up Football for a while) meaning the guy who has been covering there can move into the Centres to replace me. I don't mind playing at Fullback as I do love running at broken play as well as popping up in the line to create overlaps. Its just those damned kicks that bother me, there's nothing quite as bad as being able to hear a Flanker thundering towards you, knowing he's going to smash you as soon as you catch it. You could look and plan how you are going to get away from him, but that would involve taking your eye off the ball and dropping it, a thankless task.
I'm not sure about this game, we tend to blow hot and cold. When we put it through the hands quickly we score a lot of tries because we have a lot of fast backs. Unfortunately poor decision making lets us down too often.

OH YES!!!
Newcastle College 22 - 24 City of Sunderland College
There aren't many things that can top getting one over on the Geordies. I'm in a lot of pain at the moment but I have a massive smile on my face.
Didn't start at Fullback, but the lad who did played a blinder and was named as man of the match. His running wasn't quite on today and usually he's an excellent runner, it was his tackling that stood out. Don't think the opposition were expecting it because he's not exactly massive but he injured three of their players in the second half. Outstanding defensive display and saved the game for us.
As for me, I started at Blindside Flanker, which explains the pain as it was a hard game in the forwards. Didn't exactly set the world alight because I haven't played back row in ages. Still, didn't miss a tackle and nicked a couple of turnovers so I'm happy with that.
Onto the second half, I think we were leading 12 points to 5 at that point. I was back at Inside Centre. Just indside the opposition half we had a scrum. Fairly central so we split the backs. I was at first reciever, took the contact but stayed on my feet and drove for quite a distance, offloaded to the Winger who got brought down just before the line, a wandering Prop then barrelled over for the try. Not long afterwards we have a scrum near the right hand touchline inside our own 22. Quickly out to... wait for it... a prop standing in the Fly Half position (I was confused about it as well) who delivered an inch perfect pass to me, I stepped and was away. Can't remember the rest of the try because I knew I was going to score and began celebrating in my mind. So how I beat the Fullback was a mystery to me but apparently I swerved outside, stepped inside and then ran back outside to touch down under the posts. After that we switched off. They got a dodgy try (The ball was clearly not grounded properly) but they deserved it for the effort they put in. Another, taking their points to 17 (They finally converted one) and in the dying seconds a fourth meaning they had to convert to draw. They didn't.
Clearly they were really put out. Both sides gave everything and were exhausted afterwards. A great game to be involved in.
