Better choice than big Terry mind, he would have been on massive wages and done nothing.

Newcastle United captain Michael Owen has highlighted the urgent need to restore confidence amongst the players for interim manager Joe Kinnear to focus on.
The Magpies’ troubles began when former boss Kevin Keegan left the Tyneside club soon after the summer transfer window closed. Since then, the Magpies have failed to taste a victory and now find themselves second from bottom in the Premiership and out of Carling Cup competition.
Kinnear’s appointment has sparked widespread debate amongst the Toon followers as the 61-year-old comes in for six to eight games as a stop-gap arrangement with the club set to be sold before a permanent successor to Keegan can be named.
However, England striker Owen feels that the former Wimbledon, Luton Town and Nottingham Forest boss can help the Magpies get back their confidence.
Owen told Match of the Day: “There’s no secret that football is about confidence.
“When you are winning it is difficult to envisage a defeat and vice versa.
“It’s a big job for Joe Kinnear to come in and try to restore our confidence.
“For some reason confidence has been totally drained out of the lads since things have been shaken up.
“The worst feeling in football is when your team is struggling.
“We are lacking a lot of confidence at the minute.
“The best feeling in football is when you are full of confidence and playing free flowing football, when everybody wants the ball and scoring goals freely.
“But it’s the opposite at the moment.
“You can visibly see it, the lads are playing without any self belief and we are finding it hard to get results at the moment."

I can't see him wanting to leave when we'll hopefully be in the same league next year and he's too good for Newcastle IMO - but surely your defence is where you should be improving?

NEWCASTLE United have been dealt a blow ahead of the opening day of the January transfer window after Wolverhampton Wanderers slapped a 'not for sale' sign on winger Michael Kightly.
The winger has been scouted by transfer chief Dennis Wise and, after accepting that he might have to dip into the Championship next month in order to find new blood, the 22-year-old was on Joe Kinnear’s shortlist.
However, it emerged today that the England Under-21 international, who has been in fine form on the right flank for Mick McCarthy’s side this term, will be going nowhere.
A source at the Wolverhampton club said: “Michael’s a tremendous prospect and playing regularly, so why sell him?
“The club is ambitious and wants to get back into the Premier League, so selling our best players isn’t on the agenda.
“Mick doesn’t need to sell Michael, and he doesn’t intend to.”
Kightly started his career at Spurs but dropped down the leagues to Grays Athletic before working his way back up to the Championship.
Wolves paid just £20,000 for his services after a loan spell, with the wing king wooing fans at Molineux with a series of breathtaking performances.
And while Wolves’ message today may not put United off bidding for the player, who also had a spell at Southend United, they will still have to do battle with Aston Villa, Everton and his first club Spurs, who are all interested in luring him into the top flight and offering him his Premier League chance.
Kightly has made 61 appearances for Wolves and has netted 17 times for the Black Country club.
Yet although McCarthy will be keen to retain Kightly until the end of the season, it could be a different scenario should Wolves fail to win promotion in May, with the player keen to play at the highest level.
Speaking on the latest situation regarding transfers, Kinnear asked Toon fans to stay calm.
He said today: “The fans need to know there is a lot of work going in regarding transfers in the background.
“We are making offers for players at the moment.
“Offers have been made, but then you must wait for the clubs to come back to you.
“They will wait to see what other clubs offer and take it from there.
“Loans are a good option for us, and if we can get quality loan signings in we are making progress to tide us over.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He would bench warm at all of those clubs - no chance.

And Steve Bruce is ready to become the Magpies' next manager if owner Mike Ashley decides to replace Kinnear. (Daily Mirror)
What would you think of that Andy? Can't see it happening myself.

I think that was only on a temporary basis until Kinnear was fit Ben whereas Bruce, presumably, would be a proper replacement. Personally I think he's doing a great job at Wigan & should stay there.

Well, despite being initially delighted by Newcastle's relegation, I'm hopeful that they'll bounce straight back. With a (probable) season of mid-table mediocrity, at best, looming, it'll be boring without the derby match!

Pretty excruciating isn't it? They'll never be able to use Sir Alex's excuse that his players didn't stand out from the crowd.
Maybe they're negotiating a sponsorship with Tango?
