Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan has admitted that defender Claudio Cacapa is doubtful of featuring in the rest of the season due to a groin problem.
“We have lost Claudio Cacapa for about five weeks,” Keegan said in the Evening Chronicle.
“He pulled his groin in training on Friday and that’s why Lamine Diatta was in the squad against Fulham on Saturday.”
The 31-year-old Brazilian has also been found to be wanting more often than not during his ongoing spell since moving to St James’ Park in the summer of 2007. And as such, his future is reportedly uncertain as Keegan is being linked with a host of defenders in view of the summer transfer market.

Newcastle United and Man City have been linked with former Arsenal forward Jose Antonio Reyes.
The Spain international left the Gunners on loan in 2006 for Real Madrid, but after not getting a permanent deal at the Bernabeu despite helping them score the title triumph with his super sub performance in a crucial league game, joined their city rivals Atletico last summer.
The 24-year-old has since been unimpressive although largely he has suffered from inconsistent performances over the last two seasons.
Nevertheless, the Toon and City are reportedly trying to bring him to the Premiership again despite the fact that Reyes had failed to live up his reputation and big fees when he came to Gunners from Sevilla and later left Arsene Wenger’s side after two and half years failing to adapt to the English game.

Liverpool and Newcastle United are being linked with Tottenham Hotspur’s out-of-favour winger Aaron Lennon.
According to the Daily Mail, the 20-year-old England wide-man will be included in Juande Ramos’ intended Spurs clearout in the close season.
It is now being reported that Reds boss Rafa Benitez and Magpies manager Kevin Keegan will look to sign the £10million player, who is known for his electrifying runs down the right wing, in the summer.
Benitez had recently revealed that there is agreement in place for two young players and a senior player to arrive at the Merseyside in the summer. Keegan meanwhile, is looking to bring two or three big players to St James’ Park.

Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle United have been dealt a blow with the news that midfielder Emre will be out of action for up to two weeks with an ankle injury.
The 27-year-old Turkish international suffered the injury while playing for the Magpies reserves after scoring a fine solo goal during the 1-1 draw with Man United at St. James' Park on Monday.
Keegan told Newcastle World TV: "Unfortunately Emre has injured his ankle playing for the reserves. He'll be out for about two weeks which is a shame because he could have been in the squad for Reading."

Newcastle United chairman Chris Mort has expressed his desire of Michael Owen extending his stay with the Magpies.
The English international striker is having a fine time under new boss Kevin Keegan and his recent goal scoring stint has helped the Magpies in their bid to be in the Premier League in the next season.
When asked if he felt that the striker would be at the club for the next season The chairman is staying positive and said : "I would hope so.
"I think all the players are enjoying playing under Kevin, you can see that in the way they play and I would imagine Michael's in that camp as well, he seems to be enjoying his game.
"He's got his contract this year and next year but it obviously makes sense to sit down with Michael and secure him for the long-term if we can.
"The first things we do is, again not talking about any players in particular, sit down with the manager and decide what the manager wants to do because he is the one who has to make the end decision on these things but I know that Kevin is very fond of Michael so I would hope we can sit down and do something."

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has suggested that Phil Bardsley and Jonny Evans might be 50-50 for Saturday's Premiership clash against Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light.
The defensive duo had missed yesterday’s Tyne-Wear derby defeat at Newcastle United due to injury problems and there have been suggestions that they might be out for the rest of the season.
After the 2-0 defeat at St James’ Park, Keane confirmed that Bardsley had damaged his knee in training and Evans had a hamstring problem.
The Black Cats are five points above the drop zone with three games remaining in the season.

Mort to step aside as chairman of Newcastle..........
Chris Mort is to step down as Newcastle chairman a year after replacing Freddy Shepherd at the helm.
It is understood the top City lawyer, who took a year's sabbatical to spearhead owner Mike Ashley's vision for the future at St James' Park, could leave the club within a matter of weeks.
Mort has overseen the transition from the Shepherd era and a restructuring of the club during his chairmanship, and his reign has been far from uneventful.
He initially arrived on Tyneside to work alongside Shepherd, who had earlier sold his shares to Ashley to ease him towards a £134.4million takeover, but was quickly handed the reins as the former chairman ended his long association with the Magpies.
Sam Allardyce was already in place as manager when the pair arrived, but having overseen his summer recruitment drive, backed by a relatively modest net investment of around £10million, they dispensed with his services in January after a dreadful run of results.
They sprang a major surprise when they replaced Allardyce with Kevin Keegan, and although even he found the going tough in the early stages, the club's Barclays Premier League status was secured long before the campaign drew to a close.
However, it is away from the football side of things that Mort has done much of his work, overseeing a drive to address Newcastle's £100million debt burden and working to improve the club's image both inside and outside the city.
The Magpies are yet to confirm Mort's departure, or the identity of his replacement.
But significantly, Ashley's long-term associate Derek Llambias was appointed deputy chairman earlier this month and it would be no surprise if his name was high on the list of potential successors.

English international Michael Owen claimed that he has at last been able to start talks with his club Newcastle United regarding a contract extension.
The 28-year old striker, who joined the Magpies in 2005 from Real Madrid, still has 12 months to go on his current deal, but he is hoping to come to an agreement for a new contract soon, so as to put to rest speculations claiming he was interested in moving away from St James’ Park.
He said: "We've just opened contract talks, we are talking.
"I've got this season left regardless and we're working on a deal to stay longer. There'll probably be news in a month or two.
"This last year I played fully without hiccups to my knee. That's well behind me now."

"Newcastle have got no manager, no manager wants to come here, the owner is trying to sell and half our squad have an eye on the exit. This isn't just 'another' crisis, this is one with the potential to utterly ruin the club ."
A Geordie fans perspective. Is he right or being over dramatic?
