Well, the greatest Tennis competition in the world starts today. Unfortuantely it's been ruined a wee bit by Rafa Nadal pulling out due to injury. On the plus side that gives Andy Murray a much better chance of winning.
As far as I can remember there are two of the main Brits in action today. James Ward and Laura Robson are both playing today, shall be interesting to see how the other Brits get on as well.

Laura Robson did pretty well - taking the World No.5 to three sets.

Robson played well but jusst came up short. Good to see her again for 2 reasons - a) she's an exciting player with bunches of talent who i believe will make at least top 16 in the future and b) she's fit.
James Blake and Feliciano Lopez already out in the men's competition and although there are no Brits through yet, 3 are playing currently. Ward got hammered by Verdasco btw.

What's that all about? He can't support Wolves coming from Glasgow. Or is he exceptionally diplomatic?

Wasn't aware he was a Glasweigan, I know he was brought up in Dunblane and was in the school at the time of the massacre. Dunblane is quite close to Edinburgh and I'm sure his family have some connection with Hibs...checks internet....yes his Grandad played for the reserves...that'll explain it

Didn't realise he was brought up in Dunblane! He was born in Glasgow which is why I thought he might be being diplomatic supporting Hearts but you're right - it's obviously the granddad connection anyway.

A fair performance from Murray, although he was made to work hard for it by Kendrick who was a very entertaining player.

What is it with you English, come on take up the slack and try winning a game or two at tennis I dont think anybody realises the extent of this problem until you look at the British top 10 rankings yourselves. Murray - Born in Scotland Bogdanovic - Born in Eastern Europe Goodall - Born in England Ward - Cant find place of birth Evans - Born in England Bloomfield - Born in England Eaton - Born in England Slabinksy - Born in Eastern Europe Murray - Cant find Birth Place. Fleming - Born in Scotland. Let's assume that Ward and Murray (#9) are both English, only 6 of the top 10 were actually born in England, 2 born in Scotland, 2 in Eastern Europe. Then you consider the simple difference in class between Andy Murray and the rest of them. Bogdanovic has gone out in the first round of Wimbledon for the past 8 years I believe and he's ranked as our second best player. It shows the lack of quality tennis players that England themselves are bringing up. The female list is much better. Keothavong - Born in England Baltacha - Born in Eastern Europe O'Brien- Born in England South - Born in England. Stoop - Born in England. Cavaday - Born in England. Webley-Smith - Born in England. Curtis - Born in England Broady - Born in England. Smith - Born in England. 9/10 are English born. However, our top ranking Anne Keothavong went out in the opening round of Wimbledon yesterday, although she has worked very hard to get into the world top 50. But again, after our top ranking, Elena Baltacha (#2) has a world ranking of #105. It shows the work we have to do when you consider the top 10 Female ranking are absolutely dominated by Russians.

I forgot us British preferred a plucky loser (Henman) to someone who actually stands a good chance of winning Wimbledon in his career!

Has Bogdanovic not earned something like £80000 in 8 years by going out in the 1st round of Wimbledon, not a bad earner that is it? The tennis players in Britain get everything handed to them regardless of ability, Murray is right things have got to change before it gets even worse

It's just been anounced that Bogdanovic will no longer be given Wild Cards into this tournament and that he will simply have to qualify. Goodbye to our No.2 then!

Thank God! One of the screeching banshees has just been put out. Maria Sharapova was beaten in three sets by unseeded Gisela Dulko - deservedly tennis wise as well as for the bloody racket she makes. Luckily, Gisela is just as good looking, played some great tennis but doesn't make Concorde sound like a gentle breeze.
