CELTIC are delighted to announce the signing of Andreas Hinkel from Sevilla on a three-and-a-half deal.
The 25-year-old German internationalist has earned 17 caps for his country and previously played with top Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart.
Speaking after he completed the move to Celtic, Andreas said: "I am delighted to sign for Celtic Football Club and am really looking forward to joining up with my new team-mates.
"Celtic is a great club with a great history, having achieved such success at home and in Europe. It is a great honour to join the club and I hope to play an important part in the club's future over the next few years.
"Having already played against Celtic in European competition, I am well aware of the magnificent stadium and wonderful passionate support which the club enjoys.
"I will be doing my very best to work as hard as I can to try and bring as much success as possible to the Celtic fans."
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan said: "We are delighted to complete this signing. Andreas is someone who we have been looking at for some time and we are pleased to have finally got him to Celtic.
"We are sure he has all the qualities to be a great success at the Club."
Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: "We are very pleased to welcome Andreas to Celtic. He is a player with a fantastic pedigree and one who was in high demand, with a number of other clubs interested in him - we are pleased to have been successful in securing his signature.
"We are delighted once again to have invested in the first team through this signing and can assure fans that the Celtic Board will continue to do all we can to support Gordon's plans for the development of the Celtic squad." _________________________________________________

Brilliant news _________________________________________________
Boruc signs new Celtic contract Boruc had been linked with moves to Arsenal and AC Milan Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc has ended speculation about his future by signing a contract extension that commits him to the club until 2011. The 27-year-old Pole, who joined Celtic in 2005, was this weekend linked with moves to both Arsenal and AC Milan.
But he told arturboruc.com: "I am very grateful to the Celtic management for putting their trust in me.
"That's why I accepted the new contract offered to me and I have extended it for three more years."
Celtic had themselves been linked with an interest in Major League Soccer goalkeeper of the year Brad Guzan, the 24-year-old presently with Chivas USA, and Dundee United's Grzegorz Szamotulski.
But Celtic manager Gordon Strachan had made the retention of Boruc his priority.
Artur has made a massive contribution to our success in the past two seasons
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan
And he told Celtic's website: "Clearly this is great news for the club and we are delighted to have agreed this new extended contract with Artur.
"He has made a massive contribution to our success in the past two seasons and will hopefully continue to do so in the years ahead."
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell had earlier confirmed the deal for the player first signed from Legia Warszawa.
"Talks have been ongoing for a while and we are delighted that Artur has decided to sign," he told BBC Sport.
"He is an important part of Gordon's squad and it's great news for everyone that he has committed his future to the club.
"The Celtic board will do all we can to support Gordon's plans for the development of the Celtic squad.
"This means, as well as continuing to strengthen the squad through bringing in new players, which we have already done in the past few days with the signing of German internationalist Andreas Hinkel, ensuring that key players remain here at Celtic Park."

Celtic's world-wide reputation attracted Hinkle
Andreas Hinkel insists Celtic's world-wide reputation and the chance to resurrect his international career tempted him to snub German giants Borussia Dortmund for the Parkhead side.
The 25-year-old right-back signed from Sevilla last week for a fee reported to be just under £2million, rejecting the chance to return to the Bundesliga where he once starred for Stuttgart.
The 17-cap defender lost his place in the German squad after failing to oust Brazilian Daniel Alves from the Spanish team's line-up but is looking to relaunch his career at Celtic Park.
Speaking through his interpreter Marcus Bahnsen, he said: 'The whole world knows this club and its traditional colours of green and white.
'They were the first British club to win the Champions League (then European Cup) so I know the club's history and its importance.
'I had the opportunity to visit the club last week and the level of professionalism and organisation that I found led me to make the decision to sign. Celtic is the perfect club for me.
'Celtic's recent Champions League record is part of the decision.
'Five years ago I played for Stuttgart against Celtic and everybody knows that Celtic are always playing at the top level.
'I want to be part of the national team again and if I play well then I will automatically be part of it.'
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan insists Hinkel ticked all the boxes when it came to selecting the latest addition to his squad.
The Hoops boss, who confirmed that Hinkel would be in the party for the Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion at Parkhead on Saturday, said: 'We have been looking at Andreas since the start of the season, so it's been a long time.
'Obviously we remembered that he played for Stuttgart against us but we did our homework.
'Our scouts have done a fantastic job and everybody was positive.
'Andreas is an all-rounder. We were attracted by his professionalism, his attitude, the whole package.'

I think he'll be a very good signing for us, and a very shrewd one at the price he is, only being kept out of the 1st 11 by Dani Alves (best right back in the world) and 17 caps for ze germans also shows he is no mug

Decided to start supporting Celtic more cos i have followed them for about 7 or 8 years now and always looked for their results and stuff, but now i wanna start going to matches and buying shirts every season instead of every 4 or 5 years etc. yes this is partly down to my GF being a Celtic nut but oh well, with Newcastle taking a back seat due to the fact i hate Mike Ashley and refuse to support them whilst that inept waste of space is in charge i need a second team, so Celtic has moved from 3rd to 2nd...btw Gerry not the best thing to have an OF game on your b'day, especially if Rangers win very much doubt it as i see Celtic to have a far better squad, but still could happen...i find it pretty funny though how Rangers fans seem to think the SPL is won with a 1 point lead in January

Prospective Celtic signing Daniel van Buyten says he would relish the chance to join the Bhoys, although he has offers from a number of other clubs. The 29-year-old Belgium international stopper has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot with Bayern Munich and is set to move on in the near future.
Prospective Celtic signing Daniel van Buyten says he would relish the chance to join the Bhoys, although he has offers from a number of other clubs. Van Buyten told the Scottish Sun: "Celtic is one of my options. I have not spoken with them but I know their coach has asked for details about me.
"I arrived at Bayern with great hopes. My objective was to win a fight to win a place in the team and play in every match.
"Unfortunately, this has not been possible and I am unhappy about the situation. I'm working hard every day, but the coach doesn't seem to have confidence in me.
"After I speak with Bayern I will know my future but I will discount nothing. There's also interested clubs in England, but the final decision is down to Bayern."

Would be a good signing, but at 29 i think they need someone younger, maybe 24 or 25 or who i'd go for Steven Taylor stalling on a new contract at the Toon and would probably love a crack at the champs lge which he wont get at Newcastle, and scarily still only 21

The champions went into the game knowing the Ibrox side's win over St Mirren on Saturday had piled the pressure on but apart from the result, Celtic manager Gordon Strachan will not have been happy with his side's response.
The Bairns had dictated the opening 45 minutes but in the third minute added on for treatment to defender Dean Holden, who was stretchered off with a suspected broken leg following a challenge by Hoops skipper Stephen McManus, Australia international McDonald nodded home a cross by Shunsuke Nakamura.
Falkirk had the better of the second half as well but the Parkhead side held on for three crucial points to keep them on the heels of their old rivals but it was a nervous afternoon for the visiting fans.
It was a tepid start to the match but in the 14th minute, following a claim for handball against Gary Caldwell in the Celtic box that was ignored by referee John Underhill, Bairns midfielder Arnau Riera tested Artur Boruc with a shot from distance.
Moments later, Lee Naylor blocked Graham Barrett's goal-bound strike at the expense of a corner, the ball eventually breaking to Kevin McBride who blasted over from 12 yards when he should have done better.
Then Boruc did well to push Tam Scobbie's whipped-in free-kick past the post for a corner which was defended easily before the visitors raced up the park to win themselves a corner, McDonald knocking Shunsuke Nakamura's cross over the bar.
In the 34th minute the home side should have taken the lead after a tremendous run by Holden towards the Celtic penalty area ended with the Falkirk defender toe-poking the ball through to Barrett.
The Falkirk striker tried to tuck the ball past Boruc in to the corner of the net from 12 yards out but the Poland international pulled off a great save.
Holden had been badly injured by Parkhead skipper McManus as he released the ball and he was stretchered off to be replaced by Kenny Milne.
There was always the notion that Celtic would be more lethal if presented with an opportunity and in the third minute of added on time, it duly arrived.
McDonald broke quickly on the counter, fed Nakamura on the right and was back in the right place to head-flick the Japan international's cross in to the net from eight yards out and stun the home side.
The goal had stunned the home side but they appeared to have put the disappointment behind them quickly as they came out after the interval and again had Celtic back-tracking.
In the 51st minute, after Hoops' midfielder Scott Brown had fouled Cregg, substitute Kenny Milne had a poor attempt at Scobbie's deep cross and his header was easily saved by Boruc at his near post.
Despite Falkirk's battling qualities and the pressure they were exerting on Celtic, in reality there was little to suggest the equaliser was inevitable.
Barrett's weak effort from 25 yards in the 59th minute, which Boruc gathered comfortably, was further evidence of Falkirk's apparent impotence.
Belief seemed to ebb away from the home side as the second half continued and after Evander Sno replaced Nakamura, Celtic slowly came back in to the match.
In the 80th minute Sno had a goal-bound drive stopped by the thigh of Bairns skipper Darren Barr just inside his own penalty area.
Falkirk then brought on veteran midfielder Russell Latapy for McBride in the hope of the former Rangers player conjuring up some magic but it was Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink who crashed a shot off the post in the final seconds.

Celtic have signed Japanese midfielder Koki Mizuno on a three-and-a-half year contract with Georgios Samaras agreeing a loan deal from Manchester City. Mizuno, capped three times, joins Celtic from J-League side JEF United while Samaras has signed up for the remainder of the season.
The 22-year-old Mizuno joins his fellow countryman Shunsuke Nakamura with the Scottish champions.
Celtic have the option of making Greek striker Samaras' deal permanent.
Mizuno has won youth international honours for Japan, gaining his first full cap in March 2007 in a friendly against Peru, before winnng a further two caps in last year's Asian Cup.
Samaras, 22, meanwhile, has been out of favour at the City of Manchester Stadium, signalling Hoops' boss Gordon Strachan's move.
"I'm really delighted," the 22-year-old told the club website.
"It's the biggest club in Scotland and I'm looking forward to winning games and to win the title we have targeted.
"I'm here to help the team and to reach the targets you have.
"Of course, a big team like Celtic wants to win everything and I'm here to do that to win everything.
Loan Celt Samaras wants to feature at Euro 2008 for Greece
And with Euro 2008 on the horizon, he believes his ambition of playing for his country could be boosted by making the move to the Scottish Premier League champions.
"One of the reasons I signed here is because I will use the games to help Celtic, and, of course, for the chance to be in the squad for the national team of Greece for the summer.
"I'm here to help Celtic and for Celtic to help me."
Samaras was signed by City boss Stuart Pearce for £6m in January 2006 from Heerenveen, after an impressive 25 goals in 31 starts for the Dutch side.
Capped 12 times, the forward had previously been linked with moves to Rangers, Bolton, Middlesbrough, and Espanyol.
Meanwhile, Celtic have confirmed their interest in the £3m-rated Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty.
However, if the Glasgow club fail to clinch his signature in this transfer window, then they could return for the Northern Ireland international in the summer.

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has been ordered to serve a four-match touchline ban following his touchline row with a steward at Pittodrie in August. Strachan was sent to the stands by referee Charlie Richmond following the incident in the August 19 match. Today he was found guilty by the Scottish Football Association's disciplinary committee of an 'unacceptable conduct' offence. Celtic coach Tommy Burns said at the time that Strachan had been defending his assistant Garry Pendrey following accusations he had made a rude gesture to the Aberdeen fans behind the dugout. Hearts coach Stephen Frail avoided a two-match ban after being found not guilty of a dissent charge. He was sent to the stands during his team's match at Kilmarnock on October 27. Frail will be able to lead out Hearts at Hampden for tomorrow's CIS Insurance Cup semi-final against Rangers. He reacted angrily to a handball decision against Robbie Neilson against Killie, and would have had to take a seat in the stands for the cup clash if his appeal failed. Despite Frail admitting in the wake of the incident that he had 'let everyone down with the way I reacted', he successfully challenged the two-game ban. Frail told 'It is good to get it sorted out. It is certainly good to get the decision. 'We would have had to get on with it if we did not get it but thankfully it is the same as the last few weeks now. We can now forget about it and get on with it tomorrow night.'

MADRID, Feb 21 (Reuters) - The way Barcelona twice fought back from a goal down to win 3-2 at Celtic in the Champions League points the way forward for the team, said two-goal Lionel Messi.
The Argentina striker equalised in the first half and Thierry Henry levelled again in the second before Messi struck the winner with 11 minutes to go at Parkhead on Wednesday.
'Barcelona were always the better side even though the scores didn't reflect it,' Messi told reporters.
'Today we played the way we should always play and not even the bad luck of conceding two goals could stop us.'
Barca's fighting spirit has not always been so clear to see this season, with several limp performances giving arch-rivals Real Madrid the edge in the Primera Liga title race.
Although they have received widespread criticism in the media for their attitude, Barca have cut Real's lead to five points in recent weeks and have a King's Cup semi-final against Valencia next week.
'This result is important as it gives us a morale-boost for the upcoming commitments,' Messi said.
'The next few games are crucial as they will decide whether the season is going to be a success or not.'
Barca captain Carles Puyol backed Messi's view of the team's performance in Glasgow.
'The team played very well, including when we were behind. I think that it has been one of the best games of the season on our part,' said Puyol.
'Not only for the result, which is very good, but because the team were good in every department. One of the keys, in that sense, was the ability to react to them going in front.'
The Spain defender warned the tie against Celtic was not sewn up yet though, despite the fact Barca have won 15 of their 18 competitive matches at the Nou Camp this season, losing just once.
'We cannot think that everything is already done,' he said. 'We are still not in the quarter-finals, despite the 3-2 scoreline, although it is a great advantage for the Nou Camp.'
Puyol's defensive partner Gabriel Milito echoed those comments, saying: 'We have played a great game.
'I think that we have had one of the best games in recent times and in a very tough atmosphere. We have known how to react well.'

GLASGOW, Feb 21 (Reuters) - Defender Paul Caddis said Celtic were likely to need a miracle to overturn their 3-2 Champions League deficit in Barcelona in two weeks' time.
'In football nothing is impossible but we are probably going to need a miracle over there,' the 19-year-old told UEFA.com.
Caddis also spoke of the thrill of making his Champions League debut on Wednesday.
'Six weeks ago I was playing in the reserves up in Inverness and then I'm facing the likes of Ronaldinho, (Lionel) Messi, (Samuel) Eto'o and (Thierry) Henry,' he said.
'It's every boy's dream to play against a team like Barcelona.'
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan believes his side can improve simply by playing in the Nou Camp in the first knockout round second leg on March 4.
'We will go and try and get more experience over there which will help make us a better team in the future,' he said. 'Only in two or three years will you know if that experience has helped this bunch of players.
'We'll try and score goals. We scored twice at home so we showed it can be done.'
Captain Stephen McManus said the players could hold their heads high in spite of defeat.
'There's no shame getting beaten by a team like Barcelona but I felt we didn't pass the ball as well as we should have and that was the biggest disappointment,' he said.
'They're another level up from us. There are only so many teams that can win this tournament and they're certainly one of them.'
Strachan tipped Barcelona to lift the trophy.
'They are probably the favourites to win this tournament now,' he said.
'For us to have given them a real good game we had to have nine, 10 (players) at their best and we didn't have that.'

Thousands bid farewell to Burns A PA system was relaying Tommy Burns' funeral to Celtic Park In pictures: Burns' funeral Figures from the footballing world joined thousands of fans to bid farewell to Celtic legend Tommy Burns at his funeral in Glasgow. Manager Gordon Strachan and the entire Celtic first team squad attended the service at St Mary's Church in the Calton area where Burns grew up. Hundreds gathered outside the church and thousands more listened to the two-hour requiem mass at Celtic Park. The funeral cortege stopped at the ground on its journey to Linn Cemetery. Tommy Burns died from cancer on Thursday aged 51. His coffin was carried into St Mary's by former Celtic team-mates Danny McGrain, Peter Grant, Pat Bonner and George McCluskey. Rangers manager Walter Smith and his assistant Ally McCoist, who were part of the Scotland international coaching set-up with Burns, were also among the pall-bearers. Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond has also attended the funeral. Other figures from the football world who arrived to pay their respects included Everton manager David Moyes, Motherwell boss Mark McGhee and former Celtic manager Martin O'Neill. Former Celtic players Roy Keane, Kenny Dalglish and Pierre van Hooijdonk were also there. 'Unique and special' In a eulogy, former Celtic team-mate Billy Stark described Mr Burns as a "unique and special man". BBC coverage of Tommy Burns' funeral He said: "A list of Tommy's wonderful qualities is endless - a dignified man of principle, his generosity of spirit knew no bounds. He showed great compassion for those less fortunate than himself. "Tommy Burns treasured three things in life above all others - family, faith and football, particularly Celtic Football Club. "You would see him on the training ground in the morning, demanding and driven. When he returned from the lunchtime visit to the chapel, he turned into a calm and serene man." In his sermon Monsignor Tom Monaghan, parish priest of St Cadoc's Church, Newton Mearns, said: "There can be few families who have received the number of condolences upon the death of a treasured member of the family, as the Burns family. "Although they knew his days on earth were drawing to a close, still the pain of loss kicks in and they would have wanted to hold him just one more day, just one more minute. "The ordinary people of Glasgow and beyond have joined with supporters of Celtic football club and indeed of rival football teams to express their regard and affection for Tommy." As the service got under way, thousands of Celtic fans who had engulfed the streets around Celtic Park stood in silence. I felt totally compelled to come here just because of the man himself and what he meant to so many people Danny Carlington Glasgow Individuals, couples and whole families had made the journey to say farewell to the man they all acknowledged as a Celtic legend. The mourners crossed the generations of the Celtic family. George Inness, from Maryhill, said he totally identified with Burns. He said: "Tommy came from the same background as I did. He came through the ranks and he lived the dream. I'm just emotionally struck at this time." Elizabeth Snape, from Holytown, North Lanarkshire, said: "We just wanted to pay our respects. He was a really nice guy and Celtic through and through." Danny Carlington, from the city's south side, said: "I felt totally compelled to come here just because of the man himself and what he meant to so many people." After the service, the funeral cortege made its way through Gallowgate and past Celtic Park before heading to Linn Cemetery. Tommy Burns was treated for skin cancer in 2006, but the disease returned earlier this year. Since his death was announced last week, the outside of Celtic Park has been turned into a shrine. Good bless you Tommy Burns You'll never walk alone
