Welcome to RHF: In The Spotlight. I am Wolvensam, your ever lovable yet incredibly lazy (though not as lazy as I once was) host. The questions asked are interesting, crazy, whacky, serious, personal, intimate, and some are just downright rude!
The member gracing the hotseat today is resident Brighton fan Dawsey.

Personal:
What is your name?
Liam David Dawes
How old are you?
20
Which city/town/village do you currently live in?
I live in an area of Brighton called Lower Bevendean. Not a lot really happens here - we actually have more retirement homes than shops - although the famous 'yellow hands' scene from Only Fools and Horses was filmed here.
Tell us one thing we don't know about you?
I once played a trick shot with Steve Davis in front of a packed out Crucible Theatre. The games that evening finished early, so Davis came out to entertain the crowd. He picked me out to come and do a shot with him, which involved potting a black that was surrounded by six reds. I was successful
Have you got an "Other Half"?
Nah, girls just aren't interested in me. Oh well, saves me spending loads of money on them and pretending to be interested in America's Next Top Model or whatever garbage they watch these days.
What school do you go to?
I started at Fairlight Primary School, moved onto Patcham High School, and then did A Levels at Varndean College. Those were the days!
What subjects do you study and what are your favourite ones?
I studied English, Maths, Science, Humanities, ICT, PE, Food Technology and French at school, and then Business, Accountancy and PE at college. PE was always a favourite of mine, as was Humanities, although that could have been because I sat directly opposite the bird I fancied!
What is your Goal in life?
In terms of my career, I want to start my own business and be my own boss. In terms of life, I want to travel Australia, meet a lovely Aussie girl, marry her, have kids, and start a new life Down Under. Is that too much to ask?!
What is your favourite:
Band?
Kaiser Chiefs.
Album?
Employment by Kaiser Chiefs. There's something brilliant about driving home late at night along an empty dual carridgeway with that album turned up nice and loud.
Film?
God knows, I'm not really a film person. I haven't been to the cinema since I was with my ex girlfriend, and even then what was happening in the film was the least of my worries!
TV Programme?
Could be one of many. Top Gear, Only Fools and Horses, Gavin and Stacey - just three examples of TV programmes that I think are pure brilliance.
Dinner Guest?
Probably someone like Nelson Mandela, someone who has done something incredible with their life.
Meal?
A roast dinner cooked by my nan.
Celebrity partner?
Rebecca Adlington. I don't care what anyone else says, I think she's lovely!
Football:
Who is your favourite Brighton player ever?
Gary Hart, a man who always gives 110% for the team - blood, sweat, the lot. He is also a man who knows what it's like to have a 'proper' job, and that shows in his dedication to every cause. The man is simply a club legend, and is the best £1,000 we ever spent.
Who is your favourite current Brighton player?
Well technically I suppose that is Hart as well, but seeing as he never actually plays for us these days, I’ll go for Michel Kuipers. The man lives and breathes playing for this club, and is a top fella too.
What was your first football match? Score? Where was it? Ect
It was at the Goldstone, I know that much. Aside from that I’m not entirely sure, although I have a suspicion it was against Leyton Orient, and I have a feeling we won 1-0.
Your favourite Brighton memory?
There’s been a few! Survival at Hereford in 1997, the title wins in 2001 and 2002, the play-off win in 2004, Championship survival in 2005 and the Manchester City win a couple of months ago. But if you’re going to twist me arm and force me to pick one, I’ll go for the play-off win – I experienced every single emotion a football fan can go through in that fortnight, breathtaking stuff.
Your worst Brighton memory?
Crystal Palace 5-0 Brighton & Hove Albion. That was my first ever derby game, something I had been looking forward to for years. But to be there to see such a pathetic, spineless and embarrassing performance was harrowing. It’s just a relief that Palace didn’t bother trying for the last 35 minutes, else it would have probably been eight or nine.
Opposition player you love to despise?
Scott McGleish, for all the gestures he made to us and the riot he caused when scoring in the 4-4 draw against Leyton Orient in 1997. Good player mind, would have loved to see him in the stripes when he was in his prime.
Best goal you've ever seen live?
Robbie Keane for Spurs against the Albion in the FA Cup a few years ago. He chested the ball down on the corner of the penalty area, twisted and volleyed a thunderbolt into the top corner. It did rob us of a richly deserved replay, but what a goal!
Worst blunder you've ever seen live?
That’ll be Wayne Henderson for us against Bournemouth a year or two ago. It was 0-0 in the 94th minute, stoppage time was over, and a Bournemouth attack broke down sending the ball through to Henderson. All he had to do was pick it up, launch it into the air and the referee would have blown up. But for some reason, he suddenly thought he was Ryan Giggs, started to dribble about, inevitably fell a**e over t*t, and left an on-rushing striker with a tap in to win the game. Henderson left the club shortly after.
Do you play for a team yourself? Who are they? What league are you in?I did back in my youth, but the bottom line is that I’m c**p. I instead turned to refereeing, and would still do that today if it weren’t for work commitments getting in the way.
RHF:
Why did you join RHF?
Fez wouldn’t leave me alone until I did, so I registered with the sole intention of shutting him up.
Who is your favourite RHF member and why?
Sam, because she is female, physically attractive and likes football. What more of an excuse do you need?
What is your favourite thread on RHF?
I liked ‘Who Wants to be an Adminaire’. The fact it was a total shambles and caused Olly to throw a paddy made that whole quiz great. Although I was robbed on that £32,000 question!
In a fight to the death between you, Wolvensam, Tyler and FezNTFC, who would come where and why?
Tyler would be out instantly because he is weedy with no muscle whatsoever. I would die soon after for similar reasons. Fez would give a bit of fight, but would eventually have to leave to attend to his sheep and cows, leaving the vicious, fire breathing Sam last standing as the winner.
Questions from the Members:
Who is your favourite member to talk to and why?
Sam – cute, witty, and unusually for a girl of her age, can actually talk English. She is also the only one of you b*stards who provides me with regular entertainment during long and boring days at work.
Who is your least favourite member to talk to and why?
Hmmm. I’ll say one of the old b*ggers we have on here, because unlike posts from my fellow young’uns, theirs require me to actually think, and that wastes vital brain power!
I haven't had the pleasure of going to your stadium give me an insight on the pleasures the away fans receive.
Well, the first pleasure you’ll receive is the joy of a free bus ride as you’re only allowed to park right on the very outskirts of town. Once unceremoniously dumped from your free ride, you’ll be presented with either the option of a pint in the Sportsman, or standing around outside doing sod all, as there is literally nothing else of any interest whatsoever within a 30 minute walk.
Presuming you choose the Sportsman option, you’ll queue outside for an eternity, and when you finally get in, you’ll see that the queue inside is 10 deep at the bar, and there are only two people serving behind. In the unlikely event of you then actually getting served, you’ll pay a small fortune for a warm pint, and will gulp it down as you suddenly realise the game starts in 15 minutes and you’ve wasted the last hour of your life.
The away end – I don’t really know. I play squash at Withdean twice a week, and have been watching football there for nigh on a decade, yet I can honestly say I don’t know where the away entrance is. It is so far up the road I’ve never been there. Obviously, I haven’t sampled the view up there either, but I’ve been told it’s basically like watching a load of dwarfs having a kick about with a brussel sprout. In the event of you scoring down the other end, there will be a silence of a couple of seconds before you realise and start cheering, which is quite bizarre from where we are!
After the game, you will get the pleasure of your second free bus ride of the day, before struggling to work out where on the road your car is, getting a bit p*ssed off about this, before finding it and trundling back up the A23. At this point, you’ll be pretty satisfied, because you will have more than likely seen an away win.
What do you think your chances are this season.. mid table medocrity? relegation battle or an after christmas climb to the top?
Well, you can forget the last option. No matter how many times Adams tries to tell us we’re not, the bottom line is simple, we’re in a relegation battle. January will be crucial for us. We need new blood, and if we could capture a few of our loanees on permanent deals that would help. If we do well in the transfer market in January, we’ll stagger to mid-table. Do bad in January, and I’ll be sampling the delights of Accrington and Morecambe next season.
What is your first memory at a football game.. before during and after the match....looking back is it what made you interested in football?
It probably is really. I never used to be interested in the game until my dad dragged me along by my ears to the Goldstone one afternoon in circa 1995. It was just great, standing there at the front on a box, sampling the atmosphere, being part of the huge roar and celebrations when we scored. Looking back, it’s no wonder I got bitten by the bug, the atmosphere on the terraces at the Goldstone was incredible.
Do you think promotion is achievable in the next 3 seasons, and where did it all go wrong?
I do, although I worry that that will be promotion TO League One rather than FROM League One. If we can stay where we are until we get to our new ground though, there’s no reason why we can’t push forward in a big way and do a ‘Hull’. As for the present, it all went wrong one night in May when we sacked a terrific young manager and replaced him with a man living on past glories.
When are you playing Crystal Palace this season? I've checked your fixture list and I can't see them anywhere.......
Not out fault they didn’t enter the JPT……..
Micky Adams, your thoughts?
The man is not a very good manager. True, he did fantastically in his first spell here, but that was due in a very large part to the stroke of luck we got with the signing on Bobby Zamora. Without him, would we have had the success we had? No. Micky didn’t exactly set the world alight when he left us either did he? I’ve thought that bringing him back was a mistake ever since I saw the breaking news scroll across the bottom of Sky Sports News seven months ago, and I still stick by that opinion now. God knows what Wilkins must be thinking after he did so well with us last season.
