Southampton set to appoint Pardew
Southampton have lined up former West Ham and Charlton manager Alan Pardew as their new boss, BBC Sport understands.
Saints came close to collapse after they were relegated to League One in May before being taken over by Swiss businessman Markus Liebherr.
Previous boss Mark Wotte left St Mary's soon after Liebherr's arrival, and several bookmakers have suspended betting on Pardew taking over.
Pardew has been out of football since leaving Charlton in November 2008.
The 47-year-old took the Hammers to the FA Cup final in 2006, but his spell at Charlton was less successful with the club languishing at the foot of the Championship table when he left The Valley.
Pardew started his managerial career at Reading but has been without a club since he left Charlton last November.
Stewart Henderson has been in temporary charge of Southampton and is taking the squad through pre-season training and preparing them for a friendly against Ajax on Saturday.
Southampton will start the season on minus 10 points as a punishment for their parent company going into administration.

Well it looks Pardew maybe our new manager,if he is i will be fully behind him & wish him all the best.I know Luke doesn't like the fella & i can understand that, after there season, but im hoping he can do a great job fur us if appointed.I remember when we appointed Gordon Strachan from Coventry, there fans wanted to kill him & we didn't want him either, but look at the great job he did for us.Admittedly he inherited a great squad form Mr Glenn Hoddle, who was a fantastic manager for us,but if you asked Wolves fans they would say the opposite about him.
So whats your thoughts guys & girls ?

Southampton name Pardew as boss
Southampton have named former West Ham and Charlton manager Alan Pardew as their new boss.
His appointment on a three-year deal was rubber-stamped in the early hours of Friday, BBC Radio Solent can reveal.
Pardew, 47, said: "I'm proud and very excited to be joining a club with an immense history and huge potential."
New Saints owner Markus Liebherr said:"We are delighted to have been able to attract Alan to St Mary's from a very strong field of candidates."
Pardew, who has been out of football since leaving Charlton in November 2008, replaces Mark Wotte.
The Dutchman made his exit after Swiss businessman Liebherr completed his takeover of the troubled club earlier this month.
Saints came close to going bust after they were relegated from the Championship in May, and will begin their League One campaign on minus 10 points.
Liebherr added: "Alan has a strong track record and impressed us with his vision, commitment and ambition. We look forward to working with him."
Pardew took West Ham to the FA Cup final in 2006, but his spell at Charlton was less successful with the club languishing at the foot of the Championship table when he departed.
But the former Reading boss said he was relishing his latest challenge.
"Everything is here in terms of quality of stadium, training facilities and, now, financial stability," he said.
"I'm look forward to working with the squad and with the executive management as part of a team committed to achieving progress.
"Of course, I will bring my own style of football management to the club, but as part of a plan being evolved it to achieve long term success."
Stewart Henderson has been in temporary charge of Southampton and is taking the squad through pre-season training and preparing them for a friendly against Ajax on Saturday.

I think he could do a good job for you Tim but expect some controversy somewhere along the line as he seems to attract it!

I dunno. I was really pleased when he took over here and he nearly kept us up and i was sure he was the man to get us back to the Prem after what he did with Reading and West Ham. But he wasted the little money we had on players with too high wages and then loaned in a whole squad worth of players which cost us a play-off place.
Then obviously he monkey'sed it up completely last season and the man is often delusional in his post-match press conferences and some of his tactical decisions are ludicrous.
Having said that was what he did at Reading and West Ham luck or was Charlton just one blip? You could do worse i guess Tim but imo he is a risk especially if given money. Will he be a risk worth taking? We'll see...
