what effect will it have?
I actually thought when Arshavin went to Arsenal, for £12m after we were quoted £25m just 5 months earlier, that some realism was beginning to creep in to the game. However, apart from Kaka & Ronaldo there are some truly silly prices being bandied around at the moment, admittedly by the press, but that's the only thing they are not usually too far out on although they often get the club wrong. E.G. Yossi Benayoun, a player I really like, but £12m? Antonio Valencia, another very good prospect £23m? Franck Ribery, an extremely good player but £50m?
It also makes you wonder if the Premier League is actually beginning to lose ground to La Liga as most of the crazy prices are being offered for foreign players whereas English players prices do seem to be dropping and they are not, in general, even wanted abroad.
Where do you think this will all lead?

You know this summer will really crazy if Arsenal pay more than £25 million for a player. As much as this is very exciting what now will become of all the misfits and will Real pay for a decent defence. Cannavaro gone leaving Pepe, Metzelder and Salgado. If Barcelona win La Liga again playing the same style of football with players who all must have cost £15 million more or less will prove that under the right manager you can be successful without spending as much as Real. Wenger for one must be glad to see teams achieving success this way.

TV deals may be up at the moment but Setanta will probably change all that. If they go bust Sky have no real competition so won't be so generous in future. Where are the clubs going to make up that money from as merchandising will also be down during a recession?

Real Madrid and Barcelona have been told by Inter Milan they will have to pay £80m if they want to sign striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. (Full story: Sunday Times)
This is exactly what I was worried about. No way is Ibrahimovic worth £80m - may be a quarter of that.
