Liverpool 4 - 0 Real Madrid Juventus 2 - 2 Chelsea Bayern Munich 7 - 1 Sporting Lisbon Panathanaikos 1 - 2 Villa Real
There's only one answer to Liverpool's problem - let Benitez manage the Euro team & get an entirely different manager for the Premiership. They were magnificent tonight and, for once, not just Gerrard & Torres.
But what about Bayern? Highest aggregate score ever in the Champions League of 12 - 1!

Sproting embarrassed the Portugese League with that scoreline imo. Bayern are a mediocre, so to be able to beat them 12-1 is ridiculous. Liverpool are a different side in Europe... but 2 out of 2 English teams through so far, all good.

I watched parts of the Liverpool match and somehow managed to miss all of the goals. This calls for some tmesis; unbe-monkey'sing-lievable.

Must admit Luke, I thought what has happened to Sporting. Used to be a top team along with Porto & have produced some great players in the past. Trouble is they always end up selling them.

I thought of you while watching it Otto but, however much Rafa fouls up in the league, he seems to have a real affinity with the Champions League and they were just superb last night. Came out of the blocks at 90 mph & didn't stop.

Is money buying the Champions League aswell as the Premiership?

Not sure it's that Gerry as Real & Barca are above even Man U in the money league. Before the Heysel ban (which was also pre Premier money) we used to do pretty well even with unfashionable clubs like Notts Forest.

You wouldn't get me arguing with that! The trouble is it's self perpetuating now as - it's the best league in the world so it gets the best players, because it has the best players it stays the best league in the world. While this continues it's always going to attract the biggest TV money as well - so they they can afford the best players!
