For a team which has registered the best start by any Championship club since Fulham waltzed away with it eight years ago, Wolves find themselves being damned with faint praise at the moment, writes Martin Swain.
Birmingham striker Cameron Jerome, in supporting his theory that Alex McLeish’s team were the division’s top dogs, gave a particularly lop-sided view of Saturday’s derby.
“Wolves have been flying but we played them off their own park,” said Jerome. “They will reflect on the game and be happy with the point.”
This merely continued a theme set by Matt Kilgallon up at Sheffield United where they are still bleating about Wolves’ 3-1 victory.
“If they are top of the league and 10 points in front, then we’ve nothing to fear,” said the Blades defender. “We just had no luck whenever the ball went into the box.”
A little harsh? I think so. Jerome appears to have erased from his recall what happened after an impressive Blues had taken the lead while Kilgallon conveniently fails to add that Wolves beat his team because they didn’t require luck when they got the ball into the dangerous areas.
But never mind. The sound of envy and churlish nit-picking should be music to the ears of Mick McCarthy and his players, confirmation that the leaders’ low-key approach on top of their swashbuckling form is paying dividends.
I think they’ve got ‘em rattled.

Jerome saying Birmingham are the team to beat is just piling needless pressure on the Bluenoses, so long may that continue.
As for Sheffield United - they fail to add we have two clinical strikers where as we don't and that is why we won and are the top scorers in the country.
I don't care if people keep under-estimating us - long may it continue, it has served us well so far.
