Charlton striker Luke Varney has emerged as the top loan target for Derby County manager Paul Jewell, BBC Radio Derby reports.
It is hoped the 26-year-old will complete his move in time for the 1700 GMT loan deadline on Thursday.
Varney, who moved to the Valley from Crewe in 2007, has played 19 times for the Addicks this season, scoring twice.
Jewell has said he also wants to bring in players to boost the Rams in central defence and midfield.

Hmm, not sure what to make of this really, we needed a striker, but I'm not sure if he's up to the job.
Looked good at first for Charlton, but has gone a bit stale recently.
Can Luke shed any light of him, whats his strengths, weaknesses etc.?

It's confirmed and Derby are buying him in January as well - we finally got rid of him!! We've also got Jay McEvely on loan from the Rams and Deon Burton (ANOTHER striker!!!!) from Sheff Wed.
As for Varney, strengths - umm... umm...; weaknesses - he's poo...
Sadly i only slightly joke - he's supposed to be quick, never seemed like it to me. Not a physical presence and has a tendency to sometimes miss sitters (like when he rounded the keeper and tried to take it too close to the goal and missed...). I rated him at first and he tries quite hard but he lacks the finishing ability but maybe he'll be better for you...
How good is McEvely btw Olly?

No positional sense, can't tackle, likes to attack but is often found up field when your team is defending. Also very mistake prone and has concentration lapses. Good points are that he can whip in a decent cross and he can have an occasional good game after every 20. He's basically a donkey and a liability and if he does improve your defence then it must be seriously poo.

Let's hope Varney does as well as the last front man who left Charlton.

He is without doubt the biggest pile of poo I've ever seen as a so called 'striker'. Welll played on getting 1.5 million for this non-league player, Charlton.

I did warn you Olly, he really is dire isn't he! Actually McEvely was pretty decent while on loan here, i was gutted when he had to go back to Derby following injury.

Surprising really, Varney wasn't half bad at Crewe.
