I don't get why people go on about Shearer as a manager, sure he was a great player but that doesn't automatically mean that he will win great things as a manager! Bryan Robson is a classic example...he was once a great player where is he now I wonder?
For me,another untried manager in the EPL. Shearer was a great player and was a great leader but seriously there is a difference between playing and being a manager. maybe a traineeship under another coach would be the best. how about getting someone as a mentor for 6-12months guilding him...

He should probably cut his teeth as some kind of forwards coach, which would be a lot easier than managin the team.

Tony Adams was an equally great player & a better leader but he still did his apprenticeship before becoming a manager.
