Barton did that the other day. Not exactly the same context as Barton isn't a Sunderland fan like Rooney is an Everton fan but he still had to expect that.

Rooney was just baiting the fans who were baiting him back, however I do agree it is disrespectful as that is a club who brought him up to be the footballer he is and David Moyes did a lot for him.

He has incited the crowd Fairy. It should be a booking at the very least.Especially as it was the club that gave him his first chance...shocking actually.

Is there not some kind of rule about bringing the game into disrepute?
Kissing your badge in front of your own fans when celebrating a goal is fine but what Rooney and Barton did is inflammatory and juvenile.
They should both be punished. Just as the Sunderland fans who reacted to Barton should be punished.

I agree...I just love the way Ferguson blames everything on the referee. Why does he continue to get away with this?? His players are never at fault for anything are they! Now he says that he HAD to substitute Rooney because of the way THE REFEREE WAS BEHAVING!!!! Nothing to do with the fact that, yet again, Rooney was loosing his cool. Yes Rooney needs to grow up, but Ferguson can't go on protecting him when he's doing the wrong thing (and I'm not talking about the badge kissing but the fouls). United crumbled in the second half. It seems that was nothing to do with the team or the manager, but everything to do with the Referee. Respect eh? Can't see much of it coming from Ferguson. The FA should be investigating Ferguson's comments rather than Rooney's immature actions. He gets away with it time and time again. If the FA want respect then stop being so scared of Ferguson and start fining/banning him.
