There hasn't been official confirmation from the Newcastle hierarchy, it's just Sky Sports News sources saying he has been sacked - they're usually not far wrong though.
That club is in a state.

More comedy capers from Newcastle United. Kevin Keegan is a hero to the Geordies, and nobody can doubt his commitment to the Barcodes. Mike Ashley is a carpetbagger who promised much on his arrival but seems more preoccupied with playing up to the more yobbish elements of the St James's Park faithful than running a successful 21st century football club. So after a promising start to the season, Keegan walks off into the sunset. Who comes in next? Steve McClaren anybody? ?

Sorry to Magpies fans but Newcastle United is a joke club with joke fans who all think they're the biggest club in English football. They worship a man who is, in my opinion, a very average manager and they're run by a corrupt cunt hole.
Never liked them. Their fans are emailing the Sky Sports News studios saying that this will make them the laughing stock of English football - where have they been for the last couple of years?

This is very sad IMO. Keegan was, without his knowledge, bought in just as a front for Wise and to appease the fans. He never was the manager & it's pretty appalling to treat some one of his stature in this manner.

He' fat, he's grey, he always walks away Special K! Special K I know it's wrong to laugh at this but Newcastle could have been a UEFA cup club by now if they just stopped sacking their managers. Let's see what Dennis Wise can do for them.

Have to say I think Ben's right & this makes way for Wise to take over the reins openly but will the fans accept it any better now than they would have done initially?

Kevin Keegan has been sacked as Newcastle United manager following a meeting with the club's directors, according to sources.
Newcastle fans made their feelings known when Keegan returned as manager.
The 56-year-old did not take training on Tuesday morning but the Magpies are yet to confirm the speculation that he has left the club for a second time.
Reports suggest that Keegan became frustrated with the club's transfer policy and issued the board with an ultimatum.
Only last week 22-year-old James Milner was sold to Aston Villa for a fee of £12million, despite Keegan insisting he wanted the winger to remain on Tyneside.
Tension over transfers has simmered ever since Dennis Wise was drafted in as Executive Director (Football) to head up activity in the market, only weeks after Keegan's appointment.
At the time the former Newcastle player, who joined the club for a second spell as manager in January 2008, insisted he had no problem with Wise's surprise appointment.
But having been unable to add big names to the signings of Argentinian pair Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez during the transfer window Keegan is believed to have become disillusioned at St James' Park.
Angry supporters gathered at the stadium on Tuesday and chants of 'sack the board' were repeated as the Toon Army voiced their dissatisfaction at reports that 'King Kev' was on his way out.
The bookies have stopped taking bets on Keegan becoming the next Premier League manager to lose his job and have installed Wise as the favourite to take over at Newcastle. Everton manager David Moyes has come in from odds of 33/1 to 7/1 to be the new Toon boss.
Keegan's first stint as Toon boss began in 1992 and after five successful years at the helm he shocked the footballing world in January 1997 by announcing his resignation.
After leaving Newcastle Keegan went on to manage Fulham, England and Manchester City.Well....Pij was the only RHFer to bet on Keegan going first.....well done mate.... I just read about this: www.eplnewsb reak.com/2008/09/02/ kevin-keegan-leaves- newcastle/ It appears he was just weeed off over the lack of control he had at Newcastle with transfers. Newcastle has this really dumb idea that if they keep on cylcing through players that they will be successfull. They lose half their team every season and get another group of new players. OBVIOUSLY this has extreme downfalls: 1). You have NO team chemistry. 2). The fans don't even know their team or who to look for for leadership. 3). The coach can't do monkey's all in one season to train and make the team better, I wouldnt want to stay either...and I don't like the bloke...

For the good of the club if that decision is made.
Although it seems that one of Kev's gripes is that he wants to support the thug Barton and the club doesn't. I can't say I agree with him there.

Kevin Keegan has not been sacked as Newcastle United manager, according to a statement issued from St James' Park.
Speculation has mounted all Tuesday that the Geordie idol had been sacked after a row over transfer policy with owner Mike Ashley and director Dennis Wise. However, United said: 'For the avoidance of doubt the Club has not sacked Kevin Keegan as manager.'
The statement was released as a baying mob of Toon fans stood outside St James' Park. Bookmakers had stopped taking bets on the Premier League's next managerial casualty. Many sources suggested Keegan had either left the club or had been removed. Reasons for the parting of the ways had been suggested as lack of movement in the transfer market and a dispute over Joey Barton. The midfielder, recently released from prison, was linked with a number of Premier League clubs prior to the transfer window closing on Monday night.
However, after hours of radio silence from the club the following statement was released: 'Newcastle United can confirm that meetings between members of the Board and manager Kevin Keegan were held both yesterday and today.'
'Kevin has raised a number of issues and those have been discussed with him. The Club wants to keep progressing with its long-term strategy and would like to stress that Kevin is extremely important, both now and in the future.'
'Newcastle United values the effort and commitment shown by Kevin since his return to St. James' Park and wants him to continue to play an instrumental role as manager of the Club. For the avoidance of doubt the Club has not sacked Kevin Keegan as manager.'
Keegan himself did not attend training at Newcastle and is yet to publically speak on the subject.
I agree. Nothing screams crisis more than a public statement telling the world that the manager is NOT sacked. Get it together geordies.
