Is it not time we got rid of all rules regarding tapping up? Even when it's as blatant as Real's chasing of Ronaldo EUFA does nothing about it so why have rules in the first place? Benitez is making an art form of it in this country with first Barry & now Keane so at least if you could do what you like to get the players you want (short of kidnap!) all the clubs would be on a level playing field & aware of what could happen.

Tapping up is an odious form of behaviour, it's always gone on though and this stuff with United & Liverpool isn't really anything new. It's a bit rich coming from Ferguson though staright after his complaints about Madrid's behaviour with Ronaldo.

Levy is 100% right, I said on another thread on here - Ferguson moans about how Real Madrid are tapping Cristiano Ronaldo up and reports them to FIFA, then he replicates the same attitude as Calderon when it comes to Berbatov. As for Benitez, he's been guilty of tapping players up for some time and I'm surprised it's taken a club until now to do something about it. The way he has tried to lure Gareth Barry to Liverpool has been appalling. I doubt the FA will do jack though as it's one rule for the big four and a different rule for others.

What's ironic is that if you tap up a player quietly (i.e. Mourhino meets Cole for dinner in a restaurant) you get punished but splash it all over the papers & it's quite alright!

When did Mourinho do that Stealth? I can't recall!
Though I do know what you mean, I'm surprised the papers allow it - but I suppose it sells them!
