Is what the rival fans used to sing to us after he monkey'sed off to Newcastle.
Maybe they won't be able to sing it any more.
"Blackburn delegates are to fly to Euro 2008 for talks with former striker and BBC pundit Alan Shearer about becoming their next boss."

Would you like him as your manager Rover? Surely it'd be a bit of a risk as he's not been in management before.

It would be a risk, he ticks some boxes though, 1) Adored by the fans, although some morons booed him on his subsequent returns. 2) Automatic respect of current crop of players. The jury's out but at least Hull & Stoke are in the Premier League next time round.

thanks stealth i just honestly dont think any newcastle fan would mind if he went their for experience and to learn the ropes and do what he has always wanted to do he wants to prove himself and earn the job not just pick it up because he was a newcastle legend

Call me insensitive but most Blackburn fans won't relish the prospect of grooming Shearer just so that he can feck off to Newcastle again when he feels like it.
Mind you as a player we did have the 4 best years of his career out of him. During that period there ws no better striker in the world and he was a joy to watch.

Wouldn't expect them to like it Arover but no one would know about it until he leaves would they? As Andy says it makes sense for him to learn the craft where he would have a good chairman who'll give him time & where he'd also have the fans behind him. What he decides to do in the future is down to him. All purely speculative anyway.

I too think it would be a good move.....not to cut his managerial teeth though....that's insulting to Blackburn.....

He's got to do that somewhere though Otto. Why would it be any more insulting to Blackburn than Accrington Stanley for instance?
As I said it's all speculative anyway - he may not want the job, he may not be offered it, if he gets it he may love it & stay forever or he may flop completely & not be wanted anywhere a la Steve McClaren. Any number of possibilities really.

Looks like the man himself has ruled himself out of the job anyway on live national TV.
he appears to like his little weekend and summer job at the bbc too much to want to go out and get a full time one.
As far as shearer being a future newcastle manager is concerned maybe mike ashley should just give him a chance and chuck him in at the deep end and see if he sinks or swims at newcastle instead of this idea of getting another premiership side to groom him as a manager first.

Saying he should be at Blackburn to prepare him for Newcastle is disrespectful to Blackburn who are far better than Newcastle.
He's ruled himself out anyway.

You're totally wrong about it being disrespectful as it is, in fact, completely the opposite! It's because I have great respect for Blackburn's board, in that they they are willing to take a chance on untried managers (Hughes had not been a club manager before Blackburn) & they don't fire people every 5 minutes If only there were more clubs like them in the prem.
I also do not think Newcastle are a bigger club than Blackburn but it is Shearer's home town &, if he ever decides to become a manager, he is likely to want to manage them at some time however great his affiliation with Blackburn..

Just like Bolton languished near relegation when they had Sam Allardyce in charge with nowhere near the resources or facilities he had at Newcastle? And just like you were flying high with Glenn Roeder and Graeme Souness in charge? It wasn't the manager, it's the unrealistic pressure that Newcastle fans put on their managers. If facilities are what the size of a club is based on then why aren't Sunderland regarded as one of the best clubs in the world considering our facilites are on a par with any one of the Premierships big four.

I'd agree that Souness & Roeder were bad managers & Allardyce's style of management was not for Newcastle but doesn't that point to something being seriously wrong with the upper echelon of the club, Andy?

yeah alerdyce didn't have you playing good football but given time (it might be a shock to you thick as monkey's mags but building a good winning side doesn't happen over night or even in half a year which alerdyce had) and a bit of money (which he didn't get) he could have made a success out of the job and maybe even won you a bit of silverware (thats what you get when you win a competition like the fa cup or the league cup not that you'd know like) but no your fans are as numb as monkey's and your owners as stupid as they come and you both lack a bit of patience and common sense to make that club a success. As far as i can see the fans and the owner are the main things holding the club back and i think its monkey'sing hilariuos.

Allardyce asked for 5 years at Newcastle to build a side and got 6 months - end of. I rate Allardyce very highly, he's an excellent manager, you only need to look at Bolton for proof. The football he plays may not be pretty, but it gets you results and it's effective. Newcastle should have known how Allardyce played before they brought in him, so his sacking for his apparent poo football just shows they did not do their homework properly, as Allardyce has always been a hoof merchant. I agree Souness is a poo manager, but as for Roeder.. When Norwich came down to Molineux (Grant was managing them at the time I believe) they were by far the pootest side it has ever been my misfortune to watch. Their only shot on goal went out for a throw in. They sacked Grant, and Roeder came in. It was a slow start, but Roeder eventually took Norwich on a 13 game undefeated streak or something like that - with the help of a few Premiership loanees and the players already at the club. So to call him a poo manager after what he has done for Norwich is a bit unfair. You would not have gone down under Big Sam if your fans just sat back at let him do his stuff, shouting "YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING" will have more of a negative effect on the players than the manager, and I imagine that shot most of their confidence rather than Big Sam. Sam got Bolton into Europe and could have done the same with Newcastle given a couple of seasons. I understand your desire for a top 10 finish, but for gods sake, it was the mans first season, you cannot expect miracles. I know Newcastle fans want success, it's horrible watching 'plastic' clubs like Chelsea win trophies and shields whilst old, successful and well supported clubs such as Newcastle and Wolves fall to the way side. But sacking a manager every 5 minutes will do nout, and asking for him to be sacked after a couple of bad results will do nout. Continuity is the key to success.

The thing thats been holding us back for the past 10 years is freddy shepherd and now under mike ashley a new era will unfold yes we may not win silverware but at least under keegan we will play decent football, i mean what newcastle fan asked for sounness absouletely noone and roeder fair enough i liked the bloke and he did not do a bad job at all however he was out of his depth and was not good enough to take us onto the next level he admitted this himself, now with allardyce i tell you why he got sacked because he played players in the wrong position namely martins on the right wing and milner at right back, plus after 6 months and not too bad a start i thought we got a great manager in however after a while things got from bad to worse the players had no confidence whatsoever and we were showing no signs of progress that was the key and thats why at the start noone had a bad word to say about him, because we were playing good football and making progress then for 3-4 months we didnt it was just such bad football that no football fan should have to witness, and for not giving managers time under sir bobby robson in the first two seasons we finished 11th and 13th but we stuck by him because we saw he was taking us somewhere and the only way under allardyce was down.

I believe Allardyce wasn't right for Newcastle, his style of management or the football he played, this does not make him a bad manager. He gave Bolton what they needed but this was not right for Newcastle and as a Newcastle fan, wouldn't you think that Andy is in the best position to comment?
The Geordies live and breathe their football and have their terrace legends, Keegan is one of these, so is perfect for Newcastle and their fans. I don't think Big Sam was taking Newcastle in the right direction for them and would have done an ok job but not great.
His style was wrong but saying that, at some point Newcastle need continuity and to give a manager time. They need to find that right man though and i don't reckon Keegan is it.

Luke has pretty much rounded off what I was trying to put across - Allardyce is a great manager, but not right for Newcastle. If the board wanted exciting, attacking football I'm not entirely sure why they went for Allardyce? The man has always been a hoof merchant. It's not pretty football, but it still gets you results, you can't fault Sam for how effective it is. Hopefully Newcastle will stick with Keegan for a couple of seasons - they need some stability more than anything.
