A mass brawl involving all 20 outfield players dominated a goalless affair. The flash point was a 72nd-minute challenge by Wrexham's Steve Evans which flattened home keeper Joe Lewis.
He was unable to carry on and after he was stretchered off Posh had to blood teenage substitute James McKeown for the final 20 minutes of the match.
Lewis had been the busier of the two keepers but Wrexham keeper Gavin Ward denied Craig Mackail-Smith and George Boyd as Posh pressed late on.

Ferguson angry at brawl at Posh Ferguson says his complaint is not with Wrexham's tactics Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson railed at referee Graham Horwood after Saturday's fiery 0-0 draw with former club Wrexham at London Road. "Their centre-back has head-butted our goalkeeper, elbowed our centre forward, that is total nonsense," he said after a game that included a 20-man brawl. "My lads stuck together, what saddens me is the fact the referee has given us no protection all afternoon." Wrexham manager Brian Little defended centre-back Steve Evans after the game. The defender's clash with Joe Lewis ended with the Peterborough keeper being stretchered off, prompting the 20-man dust-up and leading Ferguson to confront Evans at the end of the match. "Steve was a little bit late with challenge, but I thought that he genuinely went for the ball," Little told BBC Sport Wales. "He scored a header from an identical situation last week. I'm 100% sure that it was an accident, Steve's eyes didn't leave the ball. The last thing in the world we are is over-physical
Wrexham manager Brian Little "The referee had a few difficult decisions to make and I thought he did all right, he made honest calls all day." Ferguson insisted that he had "no interest in Wrexham or their tactics", and Little was pleased to have taken a point from the League Two high-fliers. "We are fighting like crazy to stay up," said Little, whose side remain bottom but just one point behind Dagenham & Redbridge and Mansfield. "Our system stifled Peterborough and stopped them playing as they wanted. "The game plan is about pressure, but the last thing in the world we are is over-physical. "The brawl shouldn't have happened, we need to be better behaved than that. "But the players are desperate to represent Wrexham now, and those outside the team are battling to get in - that wasn't necessarily the case a few weeks ago." Bissy's Comment:As Corporal Jones used to say....."They don't like it up em!"

Wrexham captain Neil Roberts will miss Grimsby's visit to the Racecourse because of an ankle injury.
Boss Brian Little could hand troubled midfielder Jeff Whitley his first start since returning to Wrexham in January.
Grimsby defender Nick Fenton hopes to play after an injection and fitness test on his injured foot.
Danny Boshell has shaken off the thigh strain that kept him out of last week's home defeat by Dagenham & Redbridge but Tom Newey (bruised foot) misses out.

Wrexham are now unbeaten in six games after this dire stalemate at the Racecourse. Substitute Michael Proctor had the best chance of the game at the death but fired his effort narrowly over the crossbar. Chances were few and far between in a game that lacked life on a pitch that was covered in sand. Wrexham are six points away from safety after the four teams above them all lost. What an awful game to watch, you cannot blame the players because the pitch was a disgrace. Credit to Grimsby, they tried to play football and looked like a very good footballing side. The players must have thought they were playing on Rhyl beach. If the ground staff don't improve the pitch soon we will be going down as you cannot expect players to perform on that excuse for a football pitch. I was sitting in the Mold Road stand and you could see the sand kicking up even on the green parts of the pitch. Hope something can be done before tuesday. It was aweful mate......trying to cheer myself up by stating the obvious.....we have not lost in 6 games......but we are still bottom.....time is running out.....

Drewe Broughton could play three games in four days if MK Dons allow the striker to return on loan to Wrexham. The 29-year-old skippered Wrexham in Saturday's 0-0 draw against Grimsby but has gone back to MK Dons after his month's loan at The Racecourse expired.
Injuries at MK Dons could see Broughton play in their Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against Swansea on Monday.
If Dons boss Paul Ince OKs Wrexham's request, Broughton could play in their game with Peterborough on Tuesday.
Broughton impressed Brian Little during his month at The Racecourse.
Now the Wrexham boss wants the striker to aid the League Two strugglers fight to avoid relegation to the Conference.
A Wrexham spokesman confirmed: "We have asked MK Dons to extend Drewe's loan spell and we are awaiting a decision from Paul Ince.
"An injury crisis, though, mean Drewe could play for MK Dons against Swansea on Monday.
"But we hope they will allow Drewe to return to us after the tie so he can be in contention for the Peterborough game."
Wrexham are struggling in the striking department as Neil Roberts and Eifion Williams are injured.

It's getting worse.....
Former Wrexham favourite Darren Ferguson left The Racecourse a victorious manager of The Posh following Jamie Day's double strike. Day's 65th-minute opener, a free-kick curled in from just outside the box, was his first goal in 19 months.
And nine minutes from time, Day repeated the feat after a foul.
Defeat deepened Wrexham's relegation fears that were worsened by fellow strugglers Mansfield's 1-1 draw with Bury at Field Mill.
The Stags travel to Wrexham on Saturday in what will be one of the biggest games of the season for both clubs.

Wrexham boss Brian Little says the time may have come to go on the attack after Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Peterborough. League Two bottom club Wrexham face fellow relegation candidates Mansfield at home on Saturday in a crunch game.
"Against the better teams we've played a system that can frustrate them and has got us points," Little said.
"We have to analyse this next phase of games and decide whether we play that system or whether we're a little bit braver in our play."
Wrexham played a 5-4-1 formation to try and frustrate Posh at the Racecourse Ground, but Jamie Day scored from two free-kicks to earn the visitors victory.
"The set-piece we gave away for their first goal was a poor one, but the second free-kick was just one free-kick too many," Little added.
"We're down a little bit but we'll brush ourselves down and get ready to go on Saturday.
"Do we play with an extra forward, do we play with two wingers? There's lots of things we need to decide upon."

Wrexham 1-1 Mansfield
Michael Proctor rescued a point for Wrexham in their bottom-of-the-table clash with Mansfield at the Racecourse. Mansfield took the lead when Keith Briggs' long shot deflected off Michael Boulding to wrong-foot goalkeeper Gavin Ward eight minutes after half-time.
Wrexham battled back and Proctor beat Carl Muggleton with a low 70th-minute free-kick that evaded the keeper.
A draw was little use for either side, but the news that Macclesfield above them were also held offered some hope.

Chester 0-2 Wrexham Wrexham pulled off a vital win in their battle against relegation against local rivals Chester at the Deva Stadium. Paul Hall opened the scoring after 22 minutes firing home Michael Proctor's pass from 18-yards. And it was Proctor who doubled the lead with 25 minutes left sending his right-foot shot into the top corner. But it could have been a different story had keeper Gavin Ward not tipped a first-minute shot by managerless Chester's Chris Holroyd past the post. Rock-bottom Wrexham gave themselves renewed hope of avoiding the drop with victory over bitter rivals Chester City. A goal in each half was enough for Brian Little's side to beat a struggling home side that found their former keeper Gavin Ward in inspired form. Wrexham, with a further three former Chester players in their starting line-up, struggled in the early stages as the home side forced a succession of corners which came to nothing. City did have the ball in the net in the 21st minute when Kevin Ellison's corner curled into the net, but Chris Holroyd was adjudged to have fouled the keeper. Within a minute, the ball was in the net at the other end as Wrexham took the lead. Paul Hall pulled away from his marker and was expertly picked out by Michael Proctor. Hall then fired a right-footed shot into the bottom corner from 12 yards out. Ellison's shot from a tight angle forced Ward to make a smart save at his near post, and Hall fired wide narrowly before the break with a similar chance to the one he had scored from earlier. In the 58th minute Holroyd stung the hands of Ward with a powerfully struck shot that the keeper did well to parry away. Chester should have drawn level four minutes later when the ball broke fortuitously for Ellison who had plenty of time and space but his eight-yard effort was superbly tipped over by Ward. Holroyd then had the ball in the net again but was adjudged to be offside, and, as in the first half when a 'goal' was chalked off, Wrexham struck almost immediately as they doubled their advantage. A long throw was allowed to bounce in the box and Proctor volleyed the ball in over his shoulder to give John Danby no chance. Ward denied Ellison with another fine save and Paul McManus fired narrowly past the post as Chester failed to find a way back into the game and have now been sucked into the relegation dogfight themselves. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chester: Danby, Vaughan, Roberts, Linwood, Wilson (Rutherford 62), Holroyd (McManus 77), Dinning, Hughes, Sandwith, Murphy, Ellison. Heard that you were a bit unlucky last night not to come away with a point. Did not go last night but if it was not for 2 errors by Ward which handed us our two goals to Knight and McCleish it could have been very tight. Hope not to be playing in the same division next year but that is us going up and not you going down. Goodluck mate

Wrexham rookies sign new deals Wrexham defensive rookies Neil Taylor and Wes Baynes have signed contract extensions until the summer of 2010. The 19-year-old pair have impressed in their first season and have committed even though League Two Wrexham face relegation from The Football League.
Wales Under-21 international Taylor said: "Despite the position table, I have enjoyed my football and want to achieve things at Wrexham."
Baynes added: "I've come through the ranks and am happy with my progress."

Match report of this afternoon's home win in the clash against Bury The Red Dragons grabbed three precious points in a League Two clash that was scrappy but tense.
Michael Proctor scored the crucial goal in the 77th minute. Simon Spender crossed from the right for Proctor to give Darren Randolph no chance with a close-range effort.
The home side had to hang on desperately towards the end but first Proctor and then Stuart Nicholson came close with efforts that would have ended the tension.
Wrexham had to survive early pressure including six corners before, against the run of play, they took the lead in the 25th minute.
Sam Aiston picked up a clearance from one of those corners and raced a good 30 yards before firing in a shot which Randolph could only push out to Drewe Broughton who calmly scored.
Broughton hit the bar in the 44th minute but then came a disaster for the home side when Glynn Hurst headed an equaliser from Brian Barry-Murphy's free-kick.
Keeper Gavin Ward must take his share of the blame for the equaliser but he had earlier kept his side in the game with tremendous saves which kept out efforts by Andy Bishop and Elliott Bennett.
The Shakers opened the second half brightly but could have been behind when Broughton hit a shot straight at keeper Randolph from an Aiston cross.
Nicky Adams missed a chance for Bury from a few yards out with first Proctor and then Bishop netting only to be ruled offside.
Wrexham, who had already been hit by injuries, lost Neil Taylor and then Carl Tremarco, but the makeshift team managed to hold on to gain a win that will leave fellow strugglers looking over their shoulders.

Brentford v Wrexham
Wrexham have been boosted by the return of experienced trio Danny Sonner, Neil Roberts and Jeff Whitley for the visit to Brentford on Saturday.
Wes Baynes and Marc Williams are also back for League Two's bottom club but Neil Taylor and Carl Tremarco are out.
Brentford midfielder Kevin O'Connor could start after a substitute appearance in the defeat at Morecambe.
O'Connor had missed nine matches with a hamstring injury, and he could come in for John Mousinho or Gary Smith.

Wrexham striker Williams retires
Williams started his full-time career with Welsh Premier side Barry Town Wrexham striker Eifion Williams has retired from football and is returning to the north-east where his family is. The 32-year-old Welshman joined the Dragons last summer after spending five years at Hartlepool United.
But the former Barry and Torquay hitman struggled with injury and also failed to hold down a first team place making just 15 league and cup appearances.
Williams has not played since scoring his only goal in the 1-0 win over Bury in December.
"I have picked up one or two injuries this season and things haven't quite gone to plan," he told Wrexham's website.
"It is though, one of those decisions where I have put the family first and the travelling has not helped.
"I have had a chat with (manager) Brian Little and we agreed it was best for both parties that we go our separate ways.
"I'm 33 this year and it just didn't feel right sitting here, picking up my money and not contributing to the team.
"I won't be returning to League football, I'm looking to get a job outside of the game.
"My family said they liked Hartlepool, having lived there for five years, so it is one of those decisions, where the kids are happy in school and its right for them."
Meanwhile, MK Dons have agreed to allow striker Drewe Broughton to stay at Wrexham for the third and final month of his emergency loan period.
Broughton will join up with the MK Dons squad to enjoy Sunday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy final as a non-player.
The 29-year-old will be available to the Dragons until the penultimate weekend of the season, along with Oxford loanee front man Robert Duffy.
West Brom striker Stuart Nicholson ends his Racecourse loan spell on 19 April.
Broughton's loan extension is subject to the necessary paperwork being completed by the Football Association and the Football Association of Wales before Thursday's deadline.
"I'm very happy to be staying at Wrexham," Broughton told the Dragons' website.
"Despite playing a part in the JP Trophy semi-final win over Swansea, there was little chance of my being involved in the final.
"I feel that I can be of more use to Wrexham in their relegation fight, although I'm disappointed that I can't stay for the final game against Lincoln as I always seem to score against them."
Good luck Eifion.....
