It was never a penalty, but they were in front of the Kop.
I can't believe a team as poor as Liverpool, year after year make it so far in the Champion's League. Did they manage to string more than six passes together tonight? Of the four English teams in the competition, they are the worst in footballing terms, have the weakest players and a manager that ensures his team is out of the title race by December.
But they won again and now face Chelsea; who I hope beat them, I'm sick of Liverpool getting to the finals.
Another thing that monkey'ss me off is when all the commentators, like the knobcheese that was doing tonight's match, Tyldesley, keep saying "are these Liverpool fans going to see yet more European glory?" - totally biased. Those Liverpool fans and their antics at Heysel cost plenty of other English clubs the opportunity of seeing their side play in Europe, never forget that.
Anyway, for the semi-final I will be a Chelsea supporter for the night. Let's hope they make it third time lucky against the wallowers this time.
Have to say though that it was a great game for the semi neutral. If I was an Arsenal fan I would be thoroughly gutted.

Have to say though that it was a great game for the semi neutral. If I was an Arsenal fan I would be thoroughly gutted. You know what, this is the exact thing i said last night about Liverpool. They robbed an Arsenal side that played the much better football, and didn't try and cheat at all. Liverpool on the other hand, just lumped it long to Crouch and hoped it paid off, no skill whatsoever at all. And you know what, in my opinion, a team that is 4th best in the league shouldn't deserve to be in with a chance of winning a title that will make you the best team in Europe, when in fact they have been bettered by 3 opponents in their own league alone. The disrespect they show to the Premier League is ridiculous, if they played like they did against Inter Milan, instead of when they got beat by the likes of Reading, they'd be top of the league, but they're not. They are an awful team in terms of quality IMO, and i sincerely hope Everton pip them to 4th spot. Come on the Toffees!

Thoughts from a neutral:
It was just about a penalty. I’ve seen refs give them and I’ve seen refs not give them. That said, I think it was harsh on Arsenal and a draw would have been a fair result.
Senderos was poor, Crouch was very effective at unsettling the defence and there were two wonderful goal from Torres and Walcott’s run that led to Adebayor’s tap in.
And yes, had I been in Fabregas’s position for the fourth goal, I’d have chopped Babel down and taken the red card. But then I was never a particularly cultured defender and picked up a few red cards for that in my time in Sunday league cloggiing........
Liverpool have beaten what’s been put in front of them.If you speak of “champion quality” what does that mean? Don’t forget Liverpool put out the double champions of Italy - Inter Milan, beating them home and away. Last season on their way to the final, they put out Barcelona, then the champions of Spain and reigning Champions League cup winners. No, for the moment at least, give credit where credit is due...........
Allowing so many teams from each country has turned the CL into a European FA Cup. Liverpool won in 2005, Arsenal runners up in 2006, Milan beat Liverpool last year. In all 4 examples the teams were nowhere near the best in their respective countries. We all want to win the CL but saying it makes you the European Champions is like Portsmouth saying they are the best team in England.......do you agree?

Senderos is always poor - can't understand why Wenger hasn't replaced him before now. As for the competition itself - it's neither a cup or a league now, is it? Only a European League would really prove who's best in Europe & that's the last thing I'd ever want to see.

The fact is, you are all jealous because you can't handle the fact that Liverpool are masters when it comes to Europe. Had Arsenal been the team that went on this European run and won it you would all have been creaming yourselves. I suppose because Arsenal are the 'romantic' choice you all expect them to bulldoze Liverpool over with their slick passing. Well fact is, they didn't take their chances, Liverpool did.
Liverpool, contrary to what you may believe Arover, are not poor team. I think two Champions League finals in the past three years, and the possibilty of another this year settles that silly little argument.
Liverpool are not a hoof team. They only resorted to hoofing when Arsenal were on top. Once Liverpool scored and got their confidence back they played some good stuff on the floor (not as good as Arsenal did though i admit). Even Arsenal themselves resort to hoofing at times when they under the cosh.
Olly makes the point that at least Arsenal didn't cheat. What bollocks. Because the ref gave the penalty, Liverpool are cheats? There was definite contact, enough to bring Babel down in a goalscoring opportunity. It is then the ref's decision whether he gives it or not, so i fail to see how that makes Liverpool cheats. Another silly little argument of fantasised excuses. Amazing how you all thought Kuyt on Hleb was a penalty yet Toure on Babel wasn't. They were very nearly the same, a tug back in the area. In my opinion, both were penaltys. However, it was two different referee's, who will judge things differently. That could have swung either way. Personal prejudice seems to prevail when it comes to Liverpool.
Arsenal knock out AC Milan's OAP's and are considered wonderkids. Liverpool defeat Inter Milan both at home AND at the San Siro and their efforts are overlooked. Inter by the way are romping to the Serie A title while AC Milan trail behind them. I will say it again, look at who Liverpool have defeated in the last 3 years in this tournament:
AC Milan Chelsea (Twice) Barcelona Inter Milan Juventus Arsenal
They consistently beat the best teams in Europe but people constantly put it down to flukes. Well sorry, but no team flukes their way to consistent victories against Europes best.
People mention Liverpool's poor Premiership record. That has nothing to do with it, European knock-out nights are completely different to 38 games over a season. Liverpool have the bottle and nerve and the the confidence every time they play in Europe. Other teams such as Chelsea tend to bottle it, Liverpool do not do that. Liverpool do not have the strength or depth over a whole season to compete, but on one given night, they always seem to want it more than the opposition. Maybe that might be a reason for their fantastic European form.
Arsenal's pretty football over the last 3 years has bought them one solitary FA Cup. Liverpool have that FA Cup and a Champions League Trophy. Arsenal may play good football, but it has won them one trophy in 3 years.
Frankly, everyones posts above are a poor way of masking the fact that Liverpool are simply the best English team in the Champions League. Maybe some posters should accept that instead of hiding behind excuses, and finally give Liverpool, and most importantly, Rafeal Benitez the respect and credit they deserve.

This thread should now be officially renamed: The Pro-Scouser rant!
Can't help but agree with a lot of Fez's points though - Rafa & Liverpool have the nous for Europe, Arsenal & Chelsea don't..

Don't expect too much from a Liverpool - Chelsea semi yet again.
Jorge Valdano described last seasons offering as "poo on a stick" and whilst accepting that big games sometimes go that way there is a much higher likelihood that they will if both sides take pragmatism to extremes.
I don't want to belittle Liverpool's achievements certainly the season that they won it with quite limited resources was a monster achievement. That said I'm fed up with the media conspiracy that bangs on about special nights at Anfield and attributes some kind of mythical status to Scousers who as Boris said do love to wallow.

Funny how all the boring matches involve Chelsea isn't it? And Liverpool were involved in the most exciting FA & European Cup finals in recent history. Money obviously doesn't buy entertainment - that's a state of mind.

Money obviously doesn't buy entertainment - that's a state of mind. What i was going to say. Liverpool have loads of good games in the Champions League but as soon as they play Chelsea it turns boring. Whether this will change under Avram Grant as opposed to Mourinho, i highly doubt it.

He can't be. Fez doesn't have a beard.
I do agree with him though. Liverpool are one of the best teams I have seen in Europe and have been for years.
As for Avram Grant; he might not be there for much longer. Ben Haim has said that if he knew Grant ws going to take over from Jose then he wouldn't have joined them.
