On MSN tonight Olly told me of an email that was sent to him from Football365, some of you may know them as a comprehensive football site who offer various information, stories and statistics on clubs around the globe. They believe we have been copying and pasting articles from their website (thus committing copyright infringement) and wish to sue us, it is believed someone found us via a search engine and brought the matter to Football365's attention. Olly told me to bring this matter to urgent attention (he would do it himself but he had to leave suddenly on MSN). If we fail to adhere to what they say then RHF could consequently get shut down and Olly could get fined a serious sum.
Olly forwarded the email to my hotmail account (from his) so I could read it myself, and here it is for yourselves to read. Make of it what you will:
The name of the member who has been committing copyright infringement was mentioned in the letter, but we decided to remove their name so we didn't embarrass them and their fellow members didn't think less of them. We would appreciate that, in the worse case scenario, it did come to suing then the member will help us out with whatever the amount is - I'm sure they know who they are.
We must stress that you cannot contact Football365 under any circumstance with angry or threatening emails (though I'm sure none of you would) as it will only make matters worse.
Olly will probably be on later and give us a full account, thus backing me up.
Discuss.

Bloody hell. So long as this isn't another fricking April Fool (although it is a bit late for it). Who actually gets held responsible for this? Sam is right. We need a full account.

Olly will no doubt give a full account once he comes online, he only briefed me and forwarded the email to me earlier and then went off.

I'm afraid not, when they sent it to me I was in shock, as I had no ideas of how copying and pasting could be treated as a breach of copyright, and how serious the reprucussions were. Although I was not the person who breached copyright, i must take full responsibilty as owner of this forum. Hopefully they will see us as 'not a big deal or threat' and let us off lightly, but it's unlikely, unfortunately, I'm really upset and depessed about this.

poo! I had no idea it could be that serious posting articles from t'internet - i always figured as long as you don't say you wrote it (which we don't) that anyone was allowed to copy stuff. Surely it was put on to be read, so putting it on a forum shouldn't matter?
Surely, they'll just let us off though - warning about doing it again - it's not like we have a lot to give exactly. They'd have bigger fish to fry.

Copyright infringement is pretty strong stuff these days, in our History coursework we couldn't write paragraphs from books or the internet straight down otherwise it'll be disqualified, if we do use any material then it has to be written down near the bottom. Plagiarism I believe it's called.

It'd be a bit silly on our part, April Fools jokes are only valid until 12pm. Why would we joke about something like this? It's a serious matter. I'm surprised you think so low of us to even suggest such a thing Joe. Olly is going through this and you have the nerve to say we're bullpooting?
Plus, we're not clever enough to make such a comprehensive letter!

I'm a bit skeptical now. "I am writing to advise yourself of certain events that have surrounded your public World Wide Web forum over the past 24 hours." This sentence is poorly worded, "yourself" should not have been used, "you" would have been far more appropriate as "yourself" would indicate Olly informing himself. Why would they have said "events that have surrounded[...]" No real errors here it's just poor semantics. Also, the use of numbers in number form seems a bit suspect, formal letters of this severity should have numbers in text form.
"[..]keep any allegation of the forum[...]" This should read "keep any allegation off the forum." Poor grammar this time. Furthermore, why would Olly or Sam risk exacerbating the problem by doing what they've asked not to?
The letter is strewn with poor semantic choices and clearly not the work of a professional. Now there are three possiblities in my mind 1) Olly and/or Sam are having a bit of a laugh at our expense. 2) Someone is having a laugh and ours and Olly and Sam's expense. 3) It's kosher and whoever wrote it has made some errors.
I hope Olly and Sam aren't upset that i've explored the very real fact that this letter has caused some serious doubt in my mind regarding it's integrity. Things just didn't add up when i re-read it. I don't want to cause offence but when i see things like this i have to ask the question. I noted that you were quite short with Joe about his suggestion that it may be a wind up Sam but i hope you'll take into account the fact that i have backed up my suggestion (not a claim) that this may not be as it seems.

Yes but don't forget the wording are just extracts from a letter.....Olly/Sam have done a bit of cut/pasting of there own to protect the individual from being exposed......that's why it looks funny imo....

Naaah, too many innacuracies and poor lexical choices to be the result of a botched copy and paste.

Bissy fell for it first, but we then decided to include him in. Nick, SmokeMeAKipper, PijLOFC and sort of Ben brought it at first but then got a bit skeptical.
It was a poor attempt at an April Fool's joke and we thought it was full proof - we understand if you're all weeed off to the extreme but we'd hope you'd all take it light heartedly and see the funny side of things. We had to trick you all somehow, holiday spirit and all that.
