SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have re-stated they will not be going into administration after being presented with a second winding-up petition. The action by HMRC relates to an outstanding PAYE balance of £600,000.
The club has been informed that the petition will be heard in the High Court on November 17.
In response to this development, the club has issued the following comments:
"As per the initial winding up order in July, Sheffield Wednesday would like to inform supporters that their club is not about to be wound up, nor is it about to enter into administration.
"The Co-operative bank authorises all payments going out of the club and have on this occasion declined to ratify the HMRC payment.

Its amazing how much debt a 3rd rate team can sustain. Sadly admin is the only way for the owls despite honouring their financial commitments.

Looks like the taxman, in the current recession, has really got it in for any club not honouring it's PAYE or VAT liabilities. They very nearly put Pompey out of business for good and now have their hooks in to Wednesday and don't look like letting go. Another once great club staring at extinction and all because football is more of a business than a sport nowadays.

Another once great club staring at extinction and all because football is more of a business than a sport nowadays. Bradford Park Avenue were threatened with a winding up order over a tax bill because one of the directors weren't specific with a payment date, said in the lines "we'll pay it in a couple of weeks time" In the end Park Ave paid off the outstanding bill and the winding up order withdrawn.
