Latics have completed the signing of Irishman Paul Heffernan from Doncaster Rovers on a one month loan deal.
The 27 year old striker has made 11 appearances for Rovers so far this season, mainly from the bench, but has struggled to get a sustained run in the team under boss Sean O'Driscoll.
Heffernan's availability drew the attention of several Championship and League One clubs and Latics fought off stiff competition to sign the former Notts County and Bristol City man.
Heffernan has twice moved for £125,000 in his career and was at one time the most highly rated forward outside the top division, before a stop-start spell at Doncaster has forced him to look elsewhere for first team football.
Latics have been searching for a goal threat following the loss of Pawel Abbott at the start of November, due to complications during a routine hernia operation, and boss Dave Penney hopes that Heffernan can provide that threat.
Thank goodness for that, we've not scored against 22 men for 6 games, or something ridiculous like that!
