Rudi expected to exit before transfer deadline
RUDI Skacel's name is expected to be added to the great Saints exodus of 2008 before the transfer window slams shut at midnight tonight.
Already 12 players have left St Mary's since Rupert Lowe and Michael Wilde returned in May - including a lot of high wage earners.
And Czech Republic international Skacel is favourite out of Jan Poortvliet's current squad to follow them by the time the window shuts.
Skacel, below, one of the highest earners left at St Mary's, only played in one pre-season friendly and has not appeared in a competitive first team game in 2008/09.
Saints could still bring in another new face, but that will depend which players are moved on - either on loan or permanently.
Head coach Jan Poortvliet said: "I don't know whether it will be busy, maybe it could be. There is some interest in some players."

Saints get 'Mr Motivated'
SAINTS head coach Jan Poortvliet said he is delighted to be getting a “motivated” player, Jordan Robertson, in return for Nathan Dyer.
Sheffield United striker Robertson, 20, joined Saints yesterday on loan, until December 28.
Saints winger Dyer, 21 in November, moved in the opposite direction for the same period of time, although Poortvliet said things could be reassessed at Christmas.
The deal is still subject to Football League clearance.
In what appeared to be a thinly veiled swipe at Dyer, Poortvliet said he was pleased to be receiving a “motivated” player and felt it was a good move for both parties.
Dyer only signed a new three-year deal at St Mary’s in July, but has made just one first team start this season.
Following the opening day 2-1 defeat to Cardiff, Poortvliet said Dyer had to “not think of himself or other people, but about the team” after being jeered by the crowd.
Poortvliet said: “This is the best deal for both players.
“Nathan needs to play regularly and we have several players in the same position.
“It is a short term deal and we will reassess things in December.
“We will be getting a motivated player in return who is a promising talent.
“Jordan is a goalscorer and a powerful striker, who can play on both sides as well.
“I have followed him for some time and was thinking of signing him whilst I was in Holland. He is keen to show what he can do.”
Dyer, right, has only started one of Saints’ seven Championship games this season – being substituted after 64 minutes of the 2-2 home draw against Ipswich.
He has come on as a sub in three other games, plus the Carling Cup exit at Rotherham.
It is Dyer’s second loan spell away from Saints – he scored twice in four Championship starts for Burnley plus one as sub in 2005/06.
In 36 Championship appearances for Saints plus another 20 from the bench, Dyer has also netted once.
Robertson, meanwhile, made his debut for his hometown club as a second half sub in Tuesday’s 6-0 Carling Cup thrashing at Arsenal.
He has Football League experience, though, from loan spells in League One with Northampton in 2006/07 (3 goals in nine starts plus three as a sub), Oldham last season (one goal in two starts plus one as a sub) and Torquay in League Two in 2006/07 (2 goals in five starts plus four as a sub).
Robertson also scored twice for Torquay in an FA Cup second round replay win at Leyton Orient in December 2006 that earnt them a home tie again t Saints, which he didn’t play in having gone back to Sheffield United.
In addition, the player impressed in a loan spell with Scottish Premier League outfit Dundee United last season, scoring four goals in 12 starts plus another three from the bench.
Two of those goals came in a 3-1 win against Hearts at Tyncastle last October.

Don't really know either of these players but, from the stats, it looks like you've got by far the better part of the deal Tim?
Congrats on yesterday's result as as well.

Saints' John moves to Ashton Gate
Gary Johnson has boosted Bristol City's firepower with the signing of experienced striker Stern John on loan until the end of the year.
The 31-year-old Southampton forward will go straight into the squad for Saturday's game against Barnsley.
The Trinidad & Tobago star has scored 104 goals since arriving in the UK.
John, who played a key role in taking Birmingham City to the Premier League, played alongside Dele Adebola in their days together at Coventry City.
John started his career in the United States before signing for Nottingham Forest for £1.5m in 1999.
He has already passed a medical at Ashton Gate and manager Gary Johnson expects him to feature heavily in City's congested fixture list in the run-up to Christmas.
The six foot front man was Southampton's leading scorer last season but has fallen out of favour with the new regime at the club. And Saints boss Jan Poortvliet insists that his loan move is part of an effort to balance the books at St Mary's.
John, who has been handed the squad number 31, will not be eligible to play for City when they take on Southampton at St Mary's in a fortnight's time (8 November).

Now can someone please explain to me how the monkey's loaning out all your experienced players & goal scorers & then leaving us with a bunch of unexperienced kids is gonna benefit the club ?
PLEASE SOME ONE EXPLAIN
I'm sorry Mr Lowe but you really have messed up this time & i have really have had enough of your bullpoo so why don't you just monkey's off & let us fans have something to cheer about this season.
So this is your great master plan is it Mr Lowe ? Well its not working just like your last great idea involving a certain Mr Woodward, your plan of total football is total crap & getting "JAN THE MAN " in to manage the club just isn't working. You never should have got rid of Nigel Pearson but no you wanted you own guy so you could flatter your own massive ego.
So i hope enjoy League 1 football next season as that is where will be be at this rate.
I have had enough & i don't think i can find any interest in the games until he leaves again....

An angry Southampton supporter threw 30 coins of silver at Saints chairman Rupert Lowe and called for his resignation at the club's annual meeting. He was thrown out. (Various)
Didn't know Tim was in the UK at the moment!

So that would take them down to play you next year?
Hopefully, one of the interested parties will rescue them though as there is a real danger of losing the club altogether. All Saints fans must be cursing the day they heard of Rupert Lowe.

Sheffield United have made an undisclosed bid for the Southampton midfielder Andrew Surman, BBC Radio Sheffield reports.
Would be a hell of a loss , don't you think Tim?

Back in the Premiership in ...........? A few years yet I would think. 10 point reduction this season makes promotion unlikely (although Leeds nearly did it) especially as they are still having to sell players just to pay the wages until this consortium officially take over.
