My youngest son openly admits to following me into supporting Wrexham.....surprisingly he says he never regretted it....!! Fez,I have had some wonderful times watching Wrexham with my boys.....following your local team...you will not regret it.... That bloke is right. My proudest moments following us have been away games. Oxford, that battling performance in the second half(my first away game in 04-05),Wycombe away,Notts County freezing my bollocks off.And most recently Forest.

I had a choice, Charlton or Man Utd. Some call me stupid for supporting Charlton (sometimes i think i am) but there is nothing like supporting your local team. What were the chances of me, living in South East London regularly going to see Man Utd? - slim is being very generous.
All of my Mum's side of the family (the Irish side) support united, whether they are interested in footy or not - that's all of my 13 cousins, my uncles, aunts and grandparents yet it felt right to go with the three Charlton supporting people (my dad's side - the english side)
I've had a season ticket for 9 years, been to a play off final, suffered relegation twice, been elated at promotion twice, seen us lose countless cup games, seen us thrash West Ham 4-0 and seen us lose 6-1 to Leeds but i wouldn't change a thing.
Do i regret choosing Charlton? - no because despite waht i may say i love every second of it, experiences i wouldn't have been able to have as fully if i supported united. One of my united cousins who is the same age as me has been to see Man Utd play once - in the Charlton end at the Valley. Says it all really.
There is nothing like seeing your team play every week and supporting them through thick and thin. In fact it's more fun if there's a lot of bad, certainly makes you appreciate the good more anyway.

Great post mate, i tend to agree with most of it i have a mate who is a Liverpool fan, he's only ever been once. I always try and drag him along to our games, but he never does because he would rather watch Liverpool on sky, It's a shame really because there is live football right on his door step.

I feel exactly the same about Wolves, we're not world beaters but to be honest I'd find it extremely dull if all my team did was win every week. Plus (although it's admittedly been a bit of a chore lately) I love going to support my local team in the flesh, it just doesn't feel the same on TV to be honest as you can't soak up the atmosphere or even begin to imagine the atmosphere. Around here there are a fair few big four supporters, especially at my school. When I ask them why they don't support Wolves the one reason they give me everytime (without fail) is "because they're crap" which isn't really a reason, it's just an opinion.

I'm completely in the same boat. There are about 5 Cobblers fans in my whole school. But i tell you what, i know we're better off than the kids who choose the Big 4. Because we have an actual affinity with the clubs we love, and that...........is priceless.

To put these 'fans' into perspective, i knew an Arsenal fan at school. I was looking at a footie magazine with an interview with Patrick Vieria, this was before his move to Juventus. This Arsenal 'fan' comes up, looks at the picture, and in all seriousness said: "Is that Emile Heskey?".

Haha not exactly the most avid fans then!!! I get plenty of big 4 fans down here especially Arsenal and Chelsea as they are relatively close (although to be fair some of these people are true fans.)
However, there are only a couple of Liverpool fans and plenty of Charlton fans. Charlton don't really get that much stick from the people i know, in fact most like to see Charlton do well and generally have CAFC as their 'second team' excluding Palarse and Millwall fans (sorry that should be fan) of course.
I cop a bit of stick from by West Ham mate but generally it's pretty good, a bit different than you Sam by the sounds of it.

Well living in London you are primarily an area covered in successful clubs, especially Premiership. Here in the West Midlands we only have Birmingham City and Aston Villa. So we're quite a poo area for good recognisable Premiership clubs really..

To be honest i never had a choice, i was in a Sunderland shirt from basically the day i was born. First match at Roker Park, that was a real clincher i think. Once i'd experienced that there was no going back. I was too young to know what it was but there was something special about the club, something special about the fans. If i'd supported anyone else my Dad would have been distraught.

My dad is a Villa fan for no reason that I can see because we have never really been to Birmingham. He comes from Walthamstow near Leyton and so has a soft spot for Orient. When it came to me choosing my team he didn't stop me supporting anyone. He recommended Villa or Orient so I chose the O's purely because I had been past their stadium once or twice. I'm like Ben-once I had been to Brisbane Road I had to keep going. It was like a drug. I was too young to know what was going on but I knew it was brilliant.

I thought I'd resurrect this as what I have to post relates to this thread. As you all know (or may not know) my sister is having a baby boy who is due on the 24th June 2009, now I can't have my nephew going astray and supporting a big four team or another local club that isn't Wolves (perish the thought!) so I'm popping into the Wolves club shop sometimes this week to pick him a strip up and some other baby Wolves things. I know Bismarck mentioned on this thread that popping someone into a baby grow when they are born is weird but there's a lot at stake here, my sister's boyfriend's brother supports West Bromwich Albion and I can't have my nephew being one of those lot! My sister's boyfriend has bought him a Liverpool strip but I'm hoping I will be able to influence the lad to support his local team, though I'm perfectly happy with him having Liverpool as his second team!
He will also have a season ticket as soon as he's deemed old enough!

Indeed it is, I was chuffed it was a boy as they're much easier to get into football than girls! I've already told my sister that I'm strictly "Sam", can't be dealing with any of this "auntie Sam" crap!!
