I live in the quite nice part of a poo commuter town, only reason people live here and in the surrounding towns is proximity to London!!

My new gaff is in Northwich which is OK really pretty average but I'm near the river and the town centre with all amenities, but it won't matter cos I'll hardly ever be there.

I live just south west of Sunderland in what was a very small village called Herrington, it is now a very large village due to housing developements and what not. Massive devolpement has been seen since a business park was built locally, although it has never been a sleepy place as the main road from Sunderland to Durham splits Middle (my part) and East Herrington. Views from my back windows are very impressive, rolling farmland for a fair distance (beatiful when they're growing Rapeseed in the summer) and then a hill that was built as a burial site for the founder of the village (Herring a chap of Norse decent presumably) Also around to the west of my place Penshaw Hill & Monument are in view, the site of the story the Lambton Worm (don't know if you've heard that before) also part of the SAFC badge.
It's good for me as it's right on the border of Tyne+Wear and County Durham so i can distance myself from Newcastle by way of address.

Wouldn't want to be accidentally thought of as a geordie eh!! Well not now but before the shipbuilding industry where the term "Mackem" originates from i would have been a Geordie as that used to be associated with anyone from the North East.

You are without a doubt. Ben, if Herring was of Norse descent wouldn't he have been burnt on a funeral pyre? Although I'm not sure if you get smoked herring?

Possibly, but that was only Viking warriors wasn't it? It's quite possible he was a mere farmer or was from Norse decent but settled here though.
More likely is that he was just your regular anglo-saxon though.
Herring sounds a Norse name me.

Being Scandanavian he was probably named after the fish or maybe his ancestors were smorgasbord chefs?
The Northeast has loads of Viking descendants though, doesn't it? That was the first place they came to across the North Sea & many of them settled there eventually.

Not many settled funnily enough, they pillaged, looted and then left.
There's a large number of Viking decendants in York though.
